Perhaps you remember longing for a caregiver to hold or comfort you, or internally pleading with them to recognize your pain as legitimate. Maybe those who were meant to protect you abused you, struggled to accept your queer identity, or were too overwhelmed by the demands of financial hardship, work, or immigration to be present in the way you needed. You may still hold profound grief for the care you deserved but didn't always receive. You may find, despite your resolve to never return to your childhood pain, that those early experiences are showing up again in your current relationships or in your parenting.

I completed my Masters of Social Work at Smith College School for Social Work. I received my post-masters training at Kaiser Permanente Oakland Adult Psychiatry, where I practiced individual adult and group psychotherapy for six years before transitioning into private practice. Working at Kaiser afforded me experience with a wide range of client concerns and gave me the opportunity to work with clients from a wide range of socioeconomic, cultural, and relationship backgrounds. Before pursuing my MSW, I practiced as a corporate transactional attorney at two Bay Area law firms after completing my JD at Harvard Law School.

My ideal client is someone navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, or identity challenges, particularly within the LGBTQ+ and BIPOC community. They know firsthand how hard it is just to survive in the current environment and yet each day they have the courage to try and thrive. They seek a safe, compassionate space to process their emotions and experiences. Their goals may include fostering self-acceptance, improving relationships, or overcoming life obstacles. They want to heal and grow in a way that aligns with their values and aspirations, and they’re ready to embark on a collaborative journey toward meaningful change.

Welcome. You have arrived. Now what? Something brought you here. Perhaps the burden of pain that weighs on your body, mind and spirit. What is the nature of this pain? How is it impacting different parts of your life, your sense of identity, your relationships, your sense and purpose as a human being? Psychotherapy is an offering, a kind of healing art, a form of medicine that may help transform various symptoms of pain, manifesting in unhealthy, hurtful or even harmful thoughts and behaviors into something more healthy, wholesome and functional.

I facilitate deep inner healing. When there's space, time, curiosity and full acceptance from a safe other, what needs to be seen and heard from the depths arises and then guides towards healing, wholeness and connection. The injuries of current and past show up to speak truth and release - interpersonal, familial, intergenerational, and impacts of oppression, discrimination, alienation, abuse, and neglect. When injuries heal, freedom and connection arise, depression and anxiety fall away. This process happens with deep listening, honor, and care. I offer Sacred Ceremony with legal psychedelics to support the unfolding journey.

Hoarding Therapists
What is the most effective treatment for hoarding?
Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) has been well-studied in the treatment of hoarding. This type of therapy includes changing beliefs surrounding possessions, as well as learning how to discard items and reduce acquisitions. The hoarder may also gain much-needed organizational skills. Another useful therapy may be compassion-focused therapy, which can address emotion regulation and negative self-perception.

How long does therapy for hoarding take?
Although treatment can vary, most people demonstrate improvement after 23 sessions, with some showing improvement after just a few sessions. Researchers have developed a 26-session cognitive behavioral program. People who hoard may need “maintenance” sessions over the years if the problem arises repeatedly.

Are there medications for hoarding?
The more commonly-prescribed medications for hoarding are including antidepressants, including selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), and serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). This can include drugs such as venlafaxine and paroxetine. And because hoarding disorder is related to obsessive-compulsive disorder, medications for OCD, such as clomipramine, may be effective for hoarding as well.

Can hoarding come back after treatment?
Hoarding is a chronic disorder and it can last throughout an individual’s lifetime. Regularly checking in with a psychotherapist can help manage symptoms long-term. A good therapist will help the person learn needed skills including decision-making, organization, and stress reduction. The patient will gain a better perspective and the need to cling to useless items will lessen.
