I have been working in the field of addiction over ten years in various capacities working with individuals, groups, families, and at the policy level.
Behavior is an alamalgamation of learned patterns that lead to particular outcomes. Engaging in therapy with Counseling Alternatives for Recovery Maintenance (CARM) will help you identify patterns that no longer serve your desired goals and will help you develop in ways that improve your quality of life...Are you ready?

I worked the Substance Abuse field for 14 years.
In a world of uncertainty we are faced with conflict everyday. I work with clients who need direction and focus in their day to day problems as well as looking at long term solutions to current conditions. Most of my clients are aware of the challenges they face when they begin psychotherapy but are awakened to the depth of who they are and how they participate in their own lives.

I work with PTSD, various forms of trauma, and addiction.
Life can be full of challenges and unexpected events. I can help assist you in processing the things you can't control, while simultaneously taking charge of the things you can control. Whether you are suffering from PTSD, sexual abuse, death of a loved one, divorce, chronic illness, cancer, work issues, addiction, depression, or anxiety, you do not need to navigate those challenges alone. Every day life (and a pandemic!) can also be reason enough to want additional support. Together, we can explore and identify the patterns in your life that are no longer helpful so you can become your best self!

Many people experience a deep sense of longing often described as a feeling of emptiness. What we use to fix or fill that emptiness can begin addictive processes like alcoholism, love addiction, and codependency. My approach is to meet that longing with compassion, understanding and love. Often the problem that causes us discomfort is an old way of coping that a part of us believes we need. Together we find the meaning that is generating or keeping the presenting symptom or problem in place and then move to swiftly create positive lasting change.

I specialize in addressing personal growth, trauma, substance use and issues in relationships.
Aloha! Seeking help for struggles can be difficult. Just know that you have made the most important step in creating your life the way you want it. Life can present many challenges; with the right support these can be incredible opportunities to grow. Starting therapy is the beginning of a journey to find a more connected and fulfilling relationship to ourselves, others and the world we live in. Each of us, deep down, hold our own answers to the issues we face. Sometimes we need an objective listener to ask new questions, suggest new skills, be supportive and coach us through tough times.

My experience includes domestic violence and trauma counseling, addiction recovery, wilderness therapy, and eating disorder recovery.
Currently accepting new clients! My approach is a down-to-earth combination of the practical and the spiritual. If anxiety, depression, trauma, body image/food issues, or low self-worth are preventing you from having the kind of life you yearn for, I can be of service. Our early life experiences lead us to form "programs": beliefs about ourself and others that are often not true in the present, that can hold us back from living our full potential. My role is as a guide, holding safe space for you to navigate the questions and de-program the past as you learn to trust your inner wisdom.

Addiction Therapists
What is the best therapy for addiction?
Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.
How long does therapy for addiction take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.
How effective is drug addiction treatment?
Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.
How can you get addiction treatment for someone?
The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
