As an interpersonal therapist, we work together to find patterns of relating to others, which sometimes limits the intimacy and connection we would like in our lives.
The collective grief of the pandemic has left us facing anxiety and pain we may have already been managing before, but it's now magnified by the loss of so much of what we remember having. Emerging feelings can include grief, depression, relationship issues, parenting stress, and even anger. This can leave us feeling isolated and alone as we struggle to wade through the difficulties of our new every day.

Psychoanalysis has been a lifetime passion and dedication in my understanding of our journey in our lives. I believe psychoanalysis gives us space to think, understand, and be able to tolerate what seems to be unbearable, frustrating, and hopeless as well as relief from interpersonal difficulties or obstacles to achieving professional and personal goals. Creating a safe, trusted, and nonjudgmental atmosphere helps talk freely about thoughts, feelings, memories, hopes, and wishes. Gradually one acquires a deeper awareness and understanding of repeating patterns and develops new ways of thinking.

When we begin working together the client will set the pace and tone for treatment. This means we will work on identifying where you would like to take your treatment and how to begin. You may have realized you would like to help ease symptoms of depression, anxiety, PTSD, and even interpersonal conflicts.

Are you an independent, driven, smart woman living in NYC but struggling with anxiety and/or having difficulties with interpersonal relationships? You may feel alone, anxious, disengaged, and searching for meaningful connections or a sense of balance. You would like to engage in therapy but often say “I have no time for that- I’m too busy…” Maybe your anxious feelings and difficulties within relationships are connected to the fact that you are always busy and unable to make time for yourself. I provide virtual psychotherapy sessions in both English and Spanish.

I have specialized, extensive experience working with trauma, including healthcare workers, interpersonal violence, sexual assault, and military combat.
Here is how I see it- every one of us has encountered unique challenges in our lives that have led us to how we are feeling and functioning in this moment. Often times, these challenges lead us to be harsh, inflexible, and unforgiving to ourselves, resulting in unwanted consequences in our relationships with ourselves, others, our work, and our families. My goal with clients is to help you gain knowledge, skills, and compassion as we explore these challenges and find new ways for you to relate to yourself and the world.

My treatment approach draws from psychoanalytic, interpersonal, and somatic philosophies.
Therapy offers the opportunity to speak about that which may feel unspeakable, shameful, or muddled. The dual process of speaking and observing what emerges is useful for confronting a range of challenges and symptoms. Through careful listening and interpretation, I aim to foster insight and curiosity about your inner world. Over time, patterns emerge that invite exploration and open up the possibility for changes to be made.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
