I specialize in Internal Family Systems therapy.
For some seeing a counselor might seem intimidating, but in reality, it's an opportunity to be able to be your true self, in a safe space, with no judgment. I use the counseling technique that best suits each client. Many struggle, for example, with anxiety, depression, grief, stress or past trauma. It is possible to feel better.

Before moving to Idaho, I lived with my American family in California and Texas.
Do you know that feeling when the ground is taken from under your feet? You are falling into the abyss, desperately trying to grab for something to survive? Yes, that feeling. Or, year after year, you feel like you work hard and give your best, but nobody appreciates you, cares about you, or listens to you? If you do, that is a sign it is time to call me. I have been through a lot, too. I know what you are dealing with, and I know you can come out of it. No judgment, no pressure, no blame. Just understanding, compassion, and a path to feeling like yourself again. I'd love to support and guide you through this journey.

I use effective therapeutic models like EFT, to help you build stronger, more peaceful connections within yourself and your family.
Are you finding it challenging to navigate a relationship that's deeply important to you? Maybe things haven’t been going well in your marriage, or perhaps you’re dealing with confusing behavior from your child. For one reason or another, things feel tense between you. You've tried different ways of helping things get better but you still feel stuck. You might still be holding onto hope for a more connected, fulfilling, and peaceful relationship. If that hope is driving you to consider therapy, I’d be honored to support you through that stuck place.

I help teens, preteens and young adults learn how to cope with life stressors so that they can be happier in their personal and family lives. Most teens and young adults struggle with becoming overwhelmed and not sure how to deal with all the emotions that come up for them. So much is changing so quickly, and it can be difficult to feel like you are keeping up with the constant transitions.

I am accepting new clients! Now that school is back in session, behaviors and Big Feelings that were not present during summer, like anxiety and depression often re-emerge. Struggles with paying attention and sitting still in class are less likely to be ignored. I have been working with Children, Adolescents, and Adults for 30 years who have anxiety, depression, ADHD, self-esteem, and behavioral issues. Educating parents about how to better cope and care for their children makes a dramatic positive effect on the entire family.

Relationships tend to be the greatest source of both stress and joy in our lives. Whether you're enduring conflict in your marriage, with family, or children the disconnection can feel debilitating. Together we can explore the dynamics that are the source of that pain and, either as a couple or individual, breaking through the stagnation of painful conflict to find peace and connection. Specifically, with couples I appreciate and deeply understand the painful issues that are connected with sexual relationships and have tailored my education around incorporating that focus.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
