I am a Marriage and Family Therapist licensed in the State of Connecticut and Florida.
For an appointment text 203-214-7226. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor with more than 22 years experience, I believe the best way to conduct therapy is through understanding the relationship you have with yourself first. This relationship then translates to happier connections with others including parents, spouse, partner, and co-dependent relations including various addictions. By improving your relationships in all aspects of your life, you will see results in decreasing your anxieties and depression. Accepting HUSKY, BCBS, etc.

I did a year's internship at McCall Foundation, Torrington, CT and subsequently was hired as an alcohol-drug therapist specializing not only in the addicted but also with partners and family members of the addicted person.
I am a registered nurse and licensed professional counselor. I am multi-dimensional in the services I provide. I see children, adolescents, individuals, couples, and families. I started my career working with and teaching children who were not psychologically ready to move from kindergarten to first grade. My love for helping people inspired me to go back to school and pursue a nursing degree. After moving to Connecticut, I worked as a psych nurse at Waterbury Hospital at Merriman Hall for 6 years. This was a locked unit and it was here that I learned all the family therapy methodology.

Feeling stuck? Overwhelmed and anxious about how to manage the coming weeks or even days? If your relationships are suffering and you find yourself irritable, withdrawn, or increasingly sad or numb, you’re not alone. Past challenging or traumatic experiences might still be impacting you today. You might also notice these signs in your child and want to support them through difficult friendships, intense emotions, and stressful life changes.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
