I welcome the opportunity to walk with you as you work towards becoming the individual, couple or family you truly desire to be.
Life struggles may sometimes prevent us from fully being our true selves, interfering with the hopes, dreams and wishes we have for our lives. When the weight of relationship stress, emotional discomfort, loss, life transitions, etc. leaves you feeling unbalanced or unfulfilled, you do not have to carry it alone. It is my sincerest desire to carry it with you offering a process of emotional healing, exploration and self-discovery. As we journey towards a restored sense of balance and harmony, I encourage you through your process until you feel secure, connected and can experience peace.

You want quality time for yourself, your friends and your family, and you want to feel confident doing what you need to do to make that happen.
Somewhere along the way you started feeling like a zombie. You are physically and emotionally exhausted. You're feeling burned out, overwhelmed, disconnected and on edge. Hopelessness is sinking in or has already sunken in. You're calling out to work or skipping classes. You are terrified that you can't handle life's demands or the needs of those who count on you. Your family and relationships are suffering. The words "self-care" elicits both a laugh and a sinking feeling in your stomach, but also, you know that at some point something has to give. You are tired of feeling guilty for having your own needs. It is time.

Integrated techniques from play therapy, reality therapy, and family systems may be tailored to individuals.
I have worked with children, teens, and families for the past sixteen years, first in an educational capacity and then in counseling and mentorship. While in graduate school for counseling, coursework has included family systems, marital conflict, crisis, career, human sexuality, and addictive behaviors. My practicum has involved domestic violence and sexual assault victims and perpetrators. My internship has included a very diverse population and a variety of concerns, but I have developed my focus toward teenagers, families, and couples. My passion is to help teens and families achieve their potential and live from a perspective of optimal holistic wellness.

In addition to extensive experience as an individual and family therapist, I provide supervision for fellow clinicians, training for helping-professionals, and have served as a leader for several local non-profit organizations including the Women's Resource Center, Kids Path, and Hospice.
After decades spent honing my clinical practice, I have come to believe that personal turbulence unites us all. We have all been "there" in some shape or fashion. My approach, put simply, is partnership. I partner with others to navigate significant transitional moments including illness, loss of identity, complex grief, trauma recovery, and personal discovery. We all experience the tumult of life and are offered opportunities for growth. In my experience I have found that enhanced self-esteem, contact with supportive others, and an understanding of one's coping pitfalls can go a long way in easing the stress inherent in change.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
