My focus is with adults who are experiencing anxiety, depression, PTSD symptoms and issues related to trauma and abuse.
I work with people who have been deeply hurt and heartbroken. I work with those who have suffered loss and abandonment. I work with those who have learned to survive in the best ways they know how, but may be coming to a place where these survival skills just don't seem to be working anymore. I offer a safe space for you to begin where you are; even if you don't quite know exactly what it is that you need, we can explore that together.

"What is the most important consideration when looking for a therapist? " The fit, the feel, the vibe you have with the therapist really is best way to decide if this is a good match. A good fit, you will work well together. We will work with the issues that you are currently experiencing, noticing the internal roots of conflict, and finding ways to make meaningful and purposeful shifts or changes in your life. Experiencing difficulties from depression, relationship endings, truama, abuse, addictions, let's talk. - I am now only taking cash, checks of credit card patients. Not accepting new insurance patients. Not taking couples.

If you are browsing through this website then you're most likely trying to find help with something in your life that you've been struggling with for for years. Maybe it's depression or anxiety and you need help trying to manage it, someone to hold it with you. Perhaps you have a hard time staying in a relationship for any length of time? Or maybe you're holding onto the secret of sexual abuse as a child or teen and have never told anyone. Sometimes things shatter and we don't know why, but it does. Life shatters us. I would love the privilege of walking with you. We can do it together. You don't have to do it alone anymore.

My clinical experience includes: relational struggles, depression and loneliness, stress and anxiety, grief and loss, body image issues, questions of meaning, abuse, motherhood, and parenting concerns.
As human beings, we are prone to intense joy, deep sorrow and a wide spectrum of emotions in between. Therapy is a place to learn how to navigate these changing terrains of life. As a therapist, I will come alongside you to listen, reflect, speak to, and bear witness to your particular experiences in life. I believe many personal struggles are relational and that we experience healing through genuine connection with ourselves and others. I'm passionate about helping people move from a life of fear and feeling stuck to a life of freedom, feeling grounded, and developing a growing trust in yourself and others.

I have a passion for working with people experiencing life transitions, including divorce or loss, forming new step families, co-parenting, or struggling with parenting concerns. My approach is to explore problems systemically, viewing each client within the context of the world around them. In therapy sessions we will explore trans-generational patterns of behavior that exist within you, and within your family of origin and your family of choice.

We are all alive and trying to learn something about living; we live the way that we feel. We do this automatically (and whether we know it or not) in relationship: in relating to our self and to others. Therefore, my philosophy is everything is emotional and relational and mindful; everything matters.

Therapy is a partnership that grows in an atmosphere of safety and acceptance. It allows us to rediscover the parts of ourselves we had to disown as children in order to keep our caregivers close; to learn new skills to handle grief and distress; to build healthier, more nurturing relationships; and to gain access to our own direct experience of the world, perhaps for the first time. I nurture this collaboration with clients by recognizing that each individual possesses the wisdom he or she needs, as well as the innate capacity to love, to connect, and to thrive.

Sometimes life is about showing up and trying, even in the places where we struggle the most. Some of our work may be about your current life and the various problems or stressors that are troubling you. We will work together to explore why these troubles have presented themselves and find a way through them. Some of our work may also be about your formative years of childhood; love and how you have or have not been loved by the most influential people in your life (including yourself); how various thoughts/behaviors may be benefiting or hindering your life or finding your voice and having the ability to use it strongly but kindly.

My passion is working with issues related to sexuality and sexual assault/ abuse.
Starting therapy can be an intimidating process. After all, most of us have spent the better part of our lives trying to figure it out on our own, and telling ourselves we “don’t have time” to get help. Yet therapy can be a wonderful place to find safety while healing; to learn new strategies for tackling life’s obstacles; and to talk through your choices with a caring advocate (that’s me!). You are the best judge of what’s right for you — your values, your dreams. My role is as a guide and a resource in helping your achieve those dreams.

Flow is mental health. Feeling stuck is a mental illness. My job is to help you unstuck. Trauma makes you stuck. Your brain creates defense mechanisms based on the traumatic event. Your body remembers the impact. I believe that many problems are rooted in trauma including attachment wounds. I work with anxiety, addiction, identity, unhelpful thought/behavioral patterns, cultural transition, and spiritual abuse through the lens of trauma. I attend to your body closely in the session for metabolizing your stuck feelings and thoughts. Body-mind integration brings mental health where allows a flow.

As a trauma therapist, I believe that personal growth and transformation is vital to the human experience, and that sometimes we need support through this process. Therapy is embarking on a journey, and you are the hero of your story. In meeting with you where you are at in your journey, I will help you to develop your own set of skills to help you through your daily experiences. I also encourage approaching challenges with vulnerability and self-compassion and will assist in practicing these areas in our sessions. Even though painful experiences are inevitable, I believe that suffering does not have to hold us back from living.

I specialize in working with depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties (romantic, sexual, familial, and social), power/privilege, oppression/marginalization, trauma and abuse.
Just about everyone experiences difficult times in their lives. Sometimes these are temporary, such as during or after a life transition, and sometimes these are more chronic where we become stuck. Whether you are struggling with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, work or school concerns, or something else, I imagine you are seeking help because you are not feeling the way you wish to feel. I also imagine that you have hope that it can get better.

I have a breadth of experience working with: grief and loss, anxiety, mood/behavior disorders, domestic violence, at-risk/adjudicated teens, and chronically mentally ill adults and older adults.
My practice helps individual adults and older adults closely study their lives so they can make effective and meaningful change. I blend the graduate education I received at Naropa University in transpersonal counseling with the post-graduate trainings I have focused on in Hakomi and IFS. I hold the view that my clients' problems and pain, no matter how distressing and debilitating, stand to be their greatest teachers. I choose to see the potential and not pathology in the people I serve. I respectfully meet my clients at their door so that we may embark on this journey of unfolding together.

I have a wide range of experience in different settings such as community mental health, crisis home and domestic violence shelter, hospital, and private practice settings.
Grief and loss, childhood emotional neglect, domestic violence, and many other challenges and transitions in life affect how we see ourselves and the world we live in. It can lead to powerlessness, hopelessness, unspeakable pain and suffering, shame, emotional upheavals, and/or loss of sense of security. Yet all we seek is the ability to find peace, acceptance, and a strong connectivity with ourselves that lead to better connections with others. We want to be able to clear our view to ultimately see our deeper and meaningful purpose in life. I believe we have the innate capacity to achieve these.

I work with individuals who struggle with intense emotions, out-of-control behaviors, OCD, addiction, trauma, abuse, and suicidal/self-harm behaviors.
It is not that things are difficult that we do not dare, it is because we do not dare that they are difficult -Seneca. If you have the desire to change your life for the better, then I would like to work with you to achieve it. The journey to recovery is not easy, but easier with help. I hope to build trust and resilience in the people I work with so that they can reach their full potential in life. No matter where you are at the moment, with persistence, commitment and patience, anything is possible.

Take heart that healing from trauma and abuse is possible!.
As a trauma-trained mental health clinician, I specialize in religious trauma and abuse, working with adults who have experienced harm in religious environments or other high control groups. I help individuals heal from the damage of indoctrination, such as persistent feelings of shame and fear, identity confusion, low self-worth, loss of purpose, matters of sexuality and gender, navigating the profound sense of loss and grief related to leaving a tight-knit community, and strained relationships with family and friends.

Domestic Abuse Therapists

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?

Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?

Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?

Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?

It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
