My background entails working with adults, teens, and families with various mental health concerns, which include addiction, anxiety, depression, ADHD, relational issues, and trauma.
Are you looking for an authentic person to talk to? Are there obstacles that you have that are not understood by others? Or maybe have obstacles that remain in place regardless of what is done to remove them? During the covid and/or coronavirus pandemic, our symptoms can be increased. Is this pandemic adding to your list of obstacles? www.envisionmentalhealth.com

Navigating life's twists and turns can be quite the journey. The key is that you don't have to go through it alone. I specialize in working with women to overcome overthinking, perfectionism, people-pleasing, and all the things that accompany self-doubt. These things can cause anxiety, shame, and depression and keep us stuck. Sometimes, women overschedule and overwork to prove that they’re good enough. Occasionally, it takes the form of being unable to say no, leading to resentment and frustration, affecting all your relationships. All of this can and does affect your health as well.

EMDR is also effective in treating issues such as panic attacks, grief, disturbing memories, phobias, pain disorders, depression, anxiety, stress reduction, addictions, and abuse.
I have over 30 years experience counseling children and adolescents. I have always had a passion to help people and my interests and experience as a therapist have led me to working with children and trauma. When a person is very upset, their brain cannot process information as it does ordinarily. Highly emotionally charged experiences become ‘frozen in time’ and are not processed in the usual way. My goal is to help reprocess those events to a resolution that is life-affirming and strength-building.

Hi! I’m Kalene. I work with people who find it easy to show compassion to others but struggle to have self-compassion. They're often perfectionists, people-pleasers, helpers, empaths, highly sensitive people (HSPs), and overthinkers. I have additional training and experience in treating anxiety/depression and working with survivors of sexual trauma (including childhood sexual abuse, and assault/rape in adulthood). I find that people in these populations can be particularly vulnerable to being unkind to themselves. I specialize in helping people quiet the inner critic, lessen feelings of shame, and find peace with themselves.

“We are all going through something.” – Anonymous. Feeling stuck, overwhelmed and unable to move forward and live your best life? Oftentimes it’s about your relationships, communicating with your partner, major decisions, or facing life’s unexpected challenges. Every so often it can even be those long-standing issues that you’ve been able to deal with, but this time, you just need a little help. To be human is to be in a relationship. Relationships can be with your spouse or partner, with your family, or even with Yourself.

I believe that people suffer in their own habitual way, whether you are an individual, couple or family. We are unaware of the ways we are separated from ourselves, what we feel and how to live more fully in relationship to ourselves, our loved ones and the world. Careful attentive listening and active engagement are some of the ways I help people know themselves and support their making changes in how they live. I have deep belief and relationship with the unconscious, using dreamwork, active imagination and creative processes to facilitate change. Therapy provides the opportunity to make changes and feel more alive.

After graduating from high school, I made the decision to serve in the United States Air Force as an Equal Opportunity Advisor. During my time in the military, I came face-to-face with trauma and learned about the complexity of the human brain. It became evident to me that having a trusted person by your side can alleviate emotional intensity.

Depression Therapists

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
