I specialize in helping you reprocess trauma, deal with codependency, and navigate difficulty in relationships, especially through EMDR and Mindfulness. We can also work to address the resulting
depression
and anxiety you face. You don’t want to walk that journey alone. You want support, a light to shine on your path, and someone to accompany you. We all get caught at times in living smaller, more restricted lives than we have to or want to. Life invites us to move through the old, open up, and learn new ways of stepping into this present moment with strength and empowerment.

I am an eternal optimist, and believe strongly in the practice of training people to empower themselves. I employ behavioral processing for anxiety and
depression
, and trauma processing using EMDR. My work includes coaching Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills, and I believe strongly in helping people develop self-care regimens to prioritize themselves. My focus often includes working to assist people in finding a balance between work, home, school, family, socialization, and physical health. Goal setting is an important component of therapy, so we work together to establish therapeutic goals that are reasonable and attainable.

I feel honored to have assisted many individuals and couples in their journeys through anxiety,
depression
, trauma, grief/loss, relationship issues, and mid-life challenges.
Living your life fully is an ongoing process of learning how to allow your authentic self to survive and thrive despite life's challenges. When we are hurting, we forget that at the core of our being we have inner greatness, unique gifts, and a legacy that needs to be liberated and brought forth into this life.
When we are wounded we tend to get trapped by the defenses we build to protect ourselves. These ways of protecting ourselves cause relationship issues, create ongoing patterns of pain and conflict for ourselves and others, and prevent us from living fully who we are.
In the journey together we move at your pace in compassionately exploring and liberating your inner authentic self.

One of my greatest passions in life is my work as a therapist. With warmth, humor and compassion, I help others to heal and move forward in their lives. Perhaps, you are feeling "stuck"- overwhelmed by feelings of anxiety or
depression
, relationship issues, chronic illness, loneliness, grief or a vague sense that something feels "off." Coping with life's daily stresses can take a toll on your quality of life, making it increasingly difficult to find & experience meaning and joy. These are difficult times, difficult issues, & sometimes it's hard to get through them alone.

Medi-Cal Anthem Blue Cross provider and Medi-Cal California Health and Wellness provider. I'm a very good listener, nonjudgmental, and have much compassion for people who are hurting. . Traumatic experiences in my family of the suicide of my brother, loss of my sister in a car accident that left me critically injured, and having a twin brother who suffered with schizophrenia has made me a strong, empathetic, and trusting therapist. Albeit, its been a tough road, but shedding many ineffective beliefs, myths, and taboos I learned from my family and society I have let go.

What is the goal of therapy for depression?
Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.
What happens in therapy for depression?
Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.
What therapy types help with depression?
Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.
Can therapy for depression be done online?
Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.
How effective is therapy for depression?
Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
