We care about giving good therapy to people—individuals, couples, and families.
Therapy can be a transformative space for individuals, couples, and families to reimagine the way they relate to themselves and one another. Deep down, we believe we all want what is best for ourselves, our relationships and our families, but sometimes the pains from the past and uncertainty of life can block us from fulfillment and true connection. Life is difficult and can bring unimaginable pain. Relationships and parenting are complex. Everyone needs support.

Working from an emotion-focused lens, I help couples and families find their way back to each other after conflict and distance have settled in.
By now you may feel like you've tried everything. Perhaps your home has become a battleground, filled with fights that repeat over and over without any progress. Maybe you feel like you have hit a wall with your partner and aren’t sure how to move forward, or maybe you feel stuck, watching from the sidelines as your child navigates the many challenges of adolescence. Taking action can help resolve these feelings of helplessness and taking the initiative to seek treatment is the first step forward. If you or your child is struggling to live a fulfilling life—or even struggling to make it through the day—it’s time to seek help.

This could be working on more effective communication skills, achieving a greater level of intimacy with your partner, processing wounds in a relationship, how to deal with conflict, and increase coping skills.
I recognize that taking the first step to seek out professional counseling can be a big one. I work with both individuals and couples to achieve their goals. We work on things like managing anxiety, relationship issues, sex and intimacy, dealing with life's transitions, and increasing coping skills. Many couples come to therapy having difficulty communicating and expressing their needs. With more people working from home and spending time cooped up together it is increasingly important to understand and communicate with your partner. It can be an opportunity to understand each other on deeper more meaningful level.

If you are experiencing the pain in your personal life or in your marriage or intimate relationship, there is a real path to peace and hope.
Relationships evoke our deepest longings and fears, and touch on wounds that may have been long hidden, wounds which we’ve often lived a lifetime without recognizing. The pain of disconnection we feel in relationships, the heated arguments and periods of distance or alienation, can leave us lost and confused, stuck in emotional knots, with our desire for closeness vying against our protective reactions. Cycles of conflict may escalate, and with them, the pain. All the while, deep down, we quietly long to share ourselves more honestly and fully with those whom we are closest to.

I see individuals and families who are dealing with depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship issues, or any type of psychological distress.
Isn’t it beautiful waking up every morning with the biggest smile on your face, feeling complete, as if you own the world? Sadly, that is not the reality for many of us. There are times in our lives when we just feel stuck. Experiences of loneliness, pain, and anxiety can cause us to feel like we can’t breathe, draining us, and having an overall negative impact on our health. These experiences may be due to consequences of our choices, our past, or may just be unresolved issues that are beyond our control. It takes tremendous strength and courage to seek help and I truly commend you for taking that first step.

Sometimes your experiences didn't prepare you for the reality of adulthood, sharing life with a partner or struggling to maintain you own identity as you became a parent.
Do you feel like you've hit a wall? You're spinning in circles? You keep reliving past experiences? Or perhaps you and your partner are having the same fights repeatedly with no resolution. Maybe you're a parent floating along in a sea of chaos that you can't ever seem to bring order to. Feeling alone, lost, or ashamed that you 'can't handle this' or you 'should know what to do' - everyone else seems to be doing just fine. There is no Life Manual, no Relationship Guide, no Parenting Handbook given at birth to navigate your life.

In couples' work, I primarily utilize Emotionally Focused Therapy to facilitate positive change and healing with your partner.
It is difficult to take that first step and ask for help, to find a connection in a trusted therapist. I offer a genuine and collaborative counseling environment for individuals, couples and families. If life's issues from everyday challenges to life changing events have become overwhelming, I want you to know that you are not alone. Or, if your relationship has lost that emotional connection, there may be a path toward re-discovery and new discovery. Our work can help you to understand the sources of your distress in ways that will allow you to think more clearly, feel more deeply, and manage your relationship more effectively.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
