With a person-centered, compassion focused, strength-based platform, I help facilitate growth, co-creating a non-judgmental space.
Evolution can be messy. Healing and growth are non-linear processes which may feel challenging at times. A holistic approach to healing ensures that we are addressing all facets of the human experience, creating a space to discover our truest and most authentic selves, even when it feels like a hurdle. Dr. Seuss (Theodore Geisel) put it best, “Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple.” I aim to make therapy a safe container where those questions can be explored, either one-on-one in an individual therapy session, or for couples, in a joint session.

The type of clients who seek my support are both individuals and couples who are deeply committed to their own relationship with themselves. It is this primary relationship to Self that informs how we relate to others. I work with folks who are curious or already invested in living in alignment with their chosen values. I practice through a lens of deep compassion, curiosity, warmth, and radical reverence for grief-work and the reciprocal relationship between Grief and Gratitude. I support my clients through challenges that can ultimately lead to more insight, wisdom, self-love, compassion and a sense of security and well-being.

Since studying and practicing trauma resolution methods, and understanding the latest brain research, I have developed a unique psychotherapeutic modality,, The Connection Method™. It permanently resolves traumatic experiences and mood disorders. It is a system that goes beyond managing stress, depression, anxiety, impulsivity, psychosomatic illnesses etc. Instead, it transforms them at their core so you can live your full potential. Feeling stuck? Have you tried therapy approaches like talk therapy or CBT and feel like you have only gotten benefits up to a certain point? My approach is different than talk therapy and may be a good fit for you. Struggles like consistent anxiety, relationship triggers, shame and difficulty feeling or expressing emotions are usually all connected to deeper, core experiences that may be from the past. I also specialize in medical trauma and cancer. I want to help you find core resolution in your body and mind, not just temporary relief. I offer telehealth for folks outside of Austin, TX residing in TX and NM.

In psychotherapy, the therapeutic relationship plays a central role in fostering change and personal growth. I aim to establish the trust and support necessary for achieving therapeutic goals. Psychotherapy involves identifying and addressing challenges while removing obstacles to lead a more fulfilling, authentic, and meaningful life. I believe there is an inherent wisdom within each of us, but we sometimes become lost and lose our connection. I approach the client with warmth, understanding, and mutual respect, serving as a supportive ally on the path to healing.

How does compassion-focused therapy work?

Compassion-Focused Therapy is based on the idea that humans have at least three emotion regulation systems, including one that responds to threats and another that allows us to self-soothe. Those who experienced serious childhood adversity, the theory goes, have a hyperactive threat system and an underperforming self-soothing system, leaving them vulnerable to shame and a hypercritical mindset. CFT focuses on bringing these systems back into balance, helping the client be kinder to themselves and better able to accept kindness from others.

Is compassion-focused therapy a type of CBT?

Compassion-focused therapy is closely related to cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and employs many of its techniques. In addition to CBT, CFT also draws from the fields of biology, evolutionary psychology, neuroscience, developmental psychology, and Buddhism. It also has similarities to some types of trauma-focused therapies.

Is compassion-focused therapy evidence based?

Evidence suggests that CFT can be helpful in the treatment of anxiety, mood disorders, eating disorders, personality disorders, psychosis, and other mental illnesses. It has also been shown to be beneficial for individuals who may not have diagnosable psychiatric disorders but who still struggle with persistent self-criticism and feelings of shame.

What are the limitations of compassion-focused therapy?

Compassion-focused therapy is still a relatively new therapy, and research on its efficacy is still in its early stages; while some studies have found positive results, many have suffered from quality issues or small sample sizes. And while most CFT clients find it difficult to practice self-compassion at first, some—especially those who actively fear compassion or are deeply uncomfortable being cared for—may not be fully open to the tenets of CFT, potentially limiting the therapy’s long-term effectiveness.
