Although I specialize in working with people with substance use disorders, I've also worked with clients who struggled with anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, grief, and loss.
I am a person in long-term recovery providing psychotherapy to people with substance use disorders. I am familiar with many treatment centers and recovery fellowships in the Bay Area. I provide a nonjudgmental, direct approach and a sense of humor to address addiction and its root causes. If recovery through abstinence is your goal, I am able to tailor a relapse prevention plan to your specific needs.

We bring the entirety of ourselves everyday into the world not in separate parts. Some of these parts may include our past: traumas, conditioning, modeling, grief, anxiety, and maladaptive coping. These parts can show up in our personal, professional and romantic spaces inhibiting us actualizing our most authentic self. We can feel arrested by cycles, patterns or reactions to our past which can continue to resurface and wonder, “Why does this continue to happen to me?” If this sounds familiar and you would like to begin shifting these parts of yourself towards a more whole and authentic self - In.Sight is here to partner with you.

I work with people who face challenges that often arise but are not exclusive to the second half of life such as: the trauma of illness & death, caring for aging parents, loss of satisfaction or sense of meaning in relationships and work, loss of a job, and/or loneliness. I also work with folks suffering from love addiction or love avoidance. These challenges can often be baffling and carry symptoms such as depression, fear and anxiety. The rational mind may understand what is going on but somehow the emotional and physical body can't always take solace in rational solutions.

I'm a gay cisgender psychologist of color and my relational and culturally sensitive therapeutic approach to working with stress, grief/loss, and other concerns; considers your lived experience and integrates best practices encouraging a corrective experience through coping effectively and rewriting your narrative towards authenticity and a meaningful life.
When making the complex and vulnerable choice to begin therapy, you should be able to trust your therapist and feel safe sharing your story. This is why compassion and empathy are my priorities when building our therapeutic alliance. Together, we will collaborate on an individualized plan for change and growth that is consistent with your values and cultural identities. Every human is a unique mix of identities, experiences, fears, dreams, and values. I am well-versed in theory and operate from a foundation of science. However, I also believe that it is essential to recognize the humanity behind everyone’s struggles and actions.

Personal expertise in working with clients facing the challenges of chronic/terminal illness, partner loss, and the complications of grief and mourning.
Psychotherapy is an opportunity to develop a new compassionate understanding of yourself and your relationship to others. Whether you are looking for symptom relief or personal growth, the work of psychotherapy begins with establishing a trusting relationship with the therapist who will be your guide, ally, and occasionally your nemesis in exploration. I encourage my clients to become relentlessly curious about themselves by carefully looking at their past and present relationships and the patterns of their emotional and psychological lives.

One of my favorite parts about therapy is the openness to explore what you've been through, where you are, and where you'd like to go. It’s important that my clients feel safe and understood as we collaborate to find what is needed whether that be peace, healing, joy, energy, or whatever else you are seeking. I am experienced in helping folks with trauma, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, and life transitions.

With over 10 years experience, I have worked with people suffering from depression, anxiety, grief/loss, relationship problems, trauma, and self-acceptance issues.
My own personal experience has shown me that therapy can be life changing. I firmly believe that we are the "experts" of our own lives, but we all can use some collaborative support when life gets tough. As a bilingual, bicultural, gay therapist, I believe that everyone should be treated with compassion, kindness, and understanding how your life experiences have shaped you. By having an open dialogue with your inner self, therapy allows you to build the tools and skills to live a meaningful life separate from pain and trauma.

You care deeply—about your relationships, community, and how you show up for others. You’re the one people call on for connection, guidance, and support. You don't want to burn out but find yourself pushed to your limits. You feel pressured to hold it all together to continue being there for others; even as you navigate your own worries about loss and change. The idea of taking time to rest and ask others for support overwhelms you with guilt, self-doubt, and fears of conflict. You're tired of feeling stuck, and are looking for a way to continue caring for others while feeling connected to yourself, your needs, and your creativity.

I offer effective and compassionate support to adult individuals and couples, as well as cofounders, coworkers, and adult family members. You might be struggling with anxiety or depression, a personal challenge, or a major life transition. As a couple, you may be facing a challenge such as infidelity, loss of intimacy, communication breakdown; you may be anticipating a major change - a move, marriage, starting a family; or you may be looking for a way to end your relationship as gracefully as possible. I also have extensive experience working with cofounders and co-leaders, especially those whose relationship extends outside work.

I view psychotherapy as a collaborative process between therapist and client, where the relationship is part of the healing process. My style is active, creative, and holistic. I will meet you where you are, not-judging, engaged and curious. I work with clients who struggle with anxiety, depression, trauma, shame, relationship distress, life transitions, and existential dilemmas (questions about the meaning of life, questions about dying and death). I also have experience working with individuals struggling with dual diagnosis (addiction and mental health issues combined).

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
