I emphasize a strength-based approach, using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational Interviewing (MI), as well as practical skill-building and positive solutions for growth and change.
Life is full of ups and downs as we all know. However, sometimes it seems as if there are more downs than ups, and you need help finding out where things went wrong. You are not alone on your journey of life. No matter the age, I help clients navigate through life whether you are struggling with addiction, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, ADHD, or relationship issues. I also specialize in working with parents and men's issues. I offer a place where you will feel safe, comfortable, and free of judgment.

I have over 17 years of experience working in the field. I prefer a Strength-Based approach incorporating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution-Focused brief therapy. I have experience working with first responders and the military. I am straightforward with clients, while also being understanding in order to challenge them to achieve their goals. I believe in the holistic approach of treating the whole person and often refer clients to help improve other areas of their life.

Integrating an eclectic, strength-based approach incorporating mindfulness, narrative, psychodynamic, and CBT techniques, I believe that being direct (without being confrontational) is essential to a successful therapeutic relationship.
We all experience times when we've felt frustrated, stuck, or dissatisfied with our lives and what we want or how to move forward. While some clients are looking for immediate solutions, others want to explore the “why” behind it all. I believe we can focus on both. We'll move at your pace to understand what isn't working and why. My goal is to help you learn ways to tackle life's challenges, slow down, and feel more connected with your emotions. I'm also very passionate about helping couples seeking to improve their communication and reduce conflict leading to increased intimacy and connection.

I enjoy supporting clients to achieve their identified goals using evidence-based approaches that are trauma-informed, strength-based, solution-focused, and consider the whole person.
Is anxiety, depression, stress, or substance use interfering with your ability to live a meaningful life? Are you feeling lonely, empty or unfulfilled? The goal of therapy is to facilitate personal growth and help you improve your life. I believe there is no one-size-fits all approach to therapy, so this can take many shapes and forms depending on your needs. Whether you're looking to build self-awareness, strengthen your relationships, change your unwanted habits, better manage your stress or just feel better emotionally - I am here to help!

I am a strength-based therapist working in Northeast Los Angeles. I welcome collaborative conversations regarding the preferred lives those would like to inhabit, finding myself continually curious about the inherent resourcefulness of my clients. I enjoy helping artists to align with preferred intentions in creativity. Often the trickery of circulated messages around "success" can spell us into forgetting one's values in life. As adjunct faculty at Antioch University Los Angeles, I teach numerous courses including Narrative Therapy In Practice, Postmodern Approaches to Addiction, and Group Treatment.

If you’re looking for a therapist who is basically David Rose meets early-00’s Britney (with a dash of Drag Race & a pinch of recycled WeHo go-go boy,) you’ve clicked on the right profile. But please don’t let my humor undercut the reverence & respect I have for the therapeutic process. Self-empowerment, radical acceptance & authentic human connection will be the cornerstone of our work. I utilize strength-based, affirmative & neuroscientific theory to guide us...but healing doesn't happen via theory. It lies in you -- your hopes, hardships, successes & infinite wisdom. Sometimes we'll laugh. Often, we'll cry. But either way...

I use various therapeutic approaches, such as cognitive-behavioral (CBT), solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT), relational, attachment-based, psychodynamic, strength-based, and person-centered approaches.
Hi there, my name is Gabriel Ruiz. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in California. I completed both my bachelor's in psychology and my Master of Social Work (MSW) at California State University, Bakersfield. I am currently working on obtaining my Doctorate in Social Work (DSW) at Simmons University in Boston, Massachusetts. Our time together isn’t necessarily to rid ourselves of “bad” feelings but to gain the ability to experience a wider range of emotions. I work with children, adolescents, and adults who have various mental health needs. My approach to therapy is focused on creating a safe, brave, and affirming space.

My work is client-centered, which attempts to tailor the therapeutic approach to the needs of the client. I incorporate Cognitive-Behavioral techniques, Mindfulness Practice, Narrative Therapy and Attachment Theory, which looks at the ways in which childhood experiences may affect one's relationship to self and others.

Strength-Based Therapists

How does strength-based therapy work?

During strength-based therapy sessions, the therapist will ask about an individual’s experiences of stress, pain, or trauma with the goal of orienting the client to view themselves as a survivor rather than a victim, and focusing on their strengths rather than on their weaknesses. In framing a client’s personal narrative along these lines, the therapist and client work together to identify existing skills that can be harnessed.

Is strength-based therapy evidence-based?

Strength-based therapy is an evidence-based treatment that has been studied extensively and shown to be effective across domains. The treatment has been found to be particularly effective in helping individuals who are experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, and other mental health concerns. Strength-based therapy has been used by therapists to help clients for more than 60 years.

How long does strength-based therapy last?

There’s no precise timeline for strength-based therapy. The duration of treatment depends on the individual’s specific needs and goals and the severity of their concerns. Some individuals may find they achieve their therapeutic goals quickly, while others might benefit from ongoing support and guidance in order to continue progressing.

How effective is strength-based therapy?

Clinical research and decades of practice have shown strength-based therapy to be an effective treatment to improve mental health and well-being for many conditions. The treatment can engender a sense of connection and collaboration between the therapist and the individual, fostering a positive therapeutic relationship. For individuals with narcissistic tendencies, strength-based therapy may be less effective, as the focus on the individual’s strengths may undermine the work needed to honestly assess the challenges the individual faces.
