Change is constant. Whether with work, personal relationships, or society in general, everything is always changing, evolving - moving forward. Sometimes the tools or thoughts we use to cope with the ever-changing situations are out dated and leave us feeling frustrated, fearful, or even overwhelmed. In recognizing this, it is time to update our thoughts and coping skills so we can move forward and grow away from fears, low self esteem, or "stuck" feelings. Hypnosis is a safe, effective Holistic tool, with a positive approach to overcoming the fears/challenges holding you back from the success you desire and deserve.

You feel stuck, like something is wrong and you are not enough. You’re struggling, and you want things to be better, but you don’t know how to get there. You think to yourself you should be able to handle this, and you shouldn’t be feeling this way. You don’t know how to put it into words, or you don’t feel like there’s anyone you can talk to about it with. You want to feel understood, and be listened to without worry of being judged.

You’ve been working nonstop. You’ve earned toys, money, and titles. Everything was perfect until it wasn’t. You felt anxious, sadness, and frustration as your emotions got the best of you. You started snapping at people as your relationships headed down the drain. You can’t remember the last time you felt happy. You aren’t you anymore. This isn't the life you want. You want better. You want to make a change but you don't know how or who to turn to.

I enjoy working with the client's present day experience while bringing in relevant aspects of one's personal history. I work collaboratively with my clients on re-creating a life of healing and fullness. Therapy might mean working through depression and anxiety, significant events in the past, exploring spiritual meanings, all the while exploring the here-and-now. Having had extensive international experiences, I also actively engage in an intercultural frame and approach in therapy, exploring cultural values and intergenerational issues. Wellness is actively defined by the forces and people that has shaped and continues to shape us.

How would it be if you had trust in yourself to live fully and courageously? Difficult life experiences have promoted protective parts of you which have helped you survive and even succeed in many ways, but they now keep your life limited and unfulfilling. These survival mechanisms can manifest as depression, anxiety, workaholism, avoidance, emotional blockages, and other unsustainable ways of coping. I offer an invitation for change and transformation. Through our collaboration, you can heal and resolve past experiences so that you can move forward from a place of wholeness, connectedness, and vitality.

I specialize in working with depression, anxiety, complex trauma, childhood abuse, relational issues, and Asian American/minority issues, including cultural identity, racism, and family conflict.
Individuals raised by immigrant parents have all experienced the cultural and generational gaps growing up. These conflicts can range from daily misunderstandings to complex intergenerational trauma. As a Korean-American, I specialize in supporting young adults and families understand how these conflicts impact their lives and provide a safe space of healing to overcome these difficulties. People who experience these conflicts can sometimes develop issues separating themselves from their inner critic, indecisiveness, feeling stuck in a vicious cycle, a lack of purpose and identity, and a sense of emptiness about the future.

Are the feelings of helplessness and powerlessness always present in your life? Have you been acting fine while there is a lot of anxiety, hurt, and anger inside? Having this mental state can be painful. Many people learn not to talk about it and get busy in their life. This avoidance can worsen their anxiety and depression. And it can develop other mental health symptoms, such as panic attacks, insomnia, and obsessive compulsive disorders. Trauma and attachment injuries are often the root causes of the issues.

Choosing a therapist is deeply personal and usually comes down to an unexplainable sense or feeling that it's right. Of course it's difficult to develop that sense from a web profile so I provide a free initial consultation to support a more personal and informed process of choosing a therapist. The catalyst for therapy is often a debilitating chronic anxiety or depression that "is not me", or pain in a relationship that we care deeply about, or an addiction that hurts the ones that matter most to us.

I have experience in couples work, sexual abuse, physical abuse, developmental trauma, sex/love/porn addiction, depression, and anxiety.
Life has a way throwing curve balls. From unexpected challenges to fluctuating deadlines, life sometimes causes us to feel like we are aiming for a moving target. Relationships are guaranteed to have pitfalls that can surprise anyone. Trauma often is the leftover when a home or society is not welcoming, when violence has been perpetrated on you, or when you are faced with overwhelming loss. You will need access to your internal resources when addressing past and present trauma. Living life with a centered mindfulness can help guide you to wholeness.

It is heartbreaking to be trapped in a lifeless mood or anxiety.
As a contemporary psychoanalyst who specializes in attachments, and how they evolve throughout the lifespan, my focus is on three themes, your emotional life, your relational life, and the skills you will need to make the first two work. How do I do this? Through empathy, imagination, compassion, and collaboration, and humor. I may be an expert on the process of therapy, but you are the authority on your self, as well as your thoughts and feelings on those you love or hope to love. There is one more thing: as a poet, I believe in everyone developing personal passion

I work with adults of all ages, but I specialize in treating anxiety and mood conditions among professionals in finance, science, healthcare, tech and the creative arts.
As the global pandemic has shown us, sometimes life becomes overwhelming and uncontrollable. During these times it may be best to talk with someone outside of your community of family, friends or co-workers. A warm hearted professional to lend a moment of support and guidance. I share with clients in deciding how best to approach the issues, with the intent of addressing both the current distressing symptoms and long-standing patterns of behavior that are getting in the way of a thriving life. My practice is telehealth-based, and I accept direct pay (some prefer for privacy) as well as most PPO plans as an Out of Network provider.

For the last 23 years, I have been working as a psychotherapist in various types of fields in both Korea and the US. Throughout those years as a bilingual therapist, I have worked with many diverse clients with different ethnic or socio-economic backgrounds, ages and issues, which obligates me to be always humble and careful given the depth of impact people could experience by sharing their pain and joy with trusted someone in a safe and caring environment.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
