My approach draws from the work of existential, narrative, family-systems, and attachment-based therapies.
Mary Oliver says, "Whoever you are, no matter how lonely, the world offers itself to your imagination, calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting - over and over announcing your place in the family of things." I believe your life is inherently valuable. Your story has meaning. No matter where you're at or what you've experienced, hope still beckons. Not with a guarantee of certainty, but with a promise of fullness, healing, and belonging. My hope as a licensed therapist is to meet with those in the midst of pain and uncertainty as they pursue growth and a greater sense of connection and authenticity.

Kevin is committed to working with individuals, couples, teens, and pre-marital couples. He has very diverse life experiences from being a therapist, parent, spouse, business executive, women’s advocate, domestic violence counselor, and international businessman that he applies to work with clients from diverse backgrounds. He believes that therapy should provide a safe, understanding, trusting, and collaborative environment. You should feel supported and encouraged and never judged. We all have difficult life experiences at times and need an understanding partner to help us process and address those experiences.

My passion is to help men understand what they want from life and to address what is getting in the way. Issues that get in the way include addictions of all kinds, depression, anxiety, and anger. Perhaps a partner is unhappy and suggests change needs to happen and soon, or else. Asking for help is often the most difficult decision for men to make. The pain and fear we feel tells us something is wrong. But if we ask for help what does it say about us? Shouldn't we be able to handle this on our own? The most courageous thing you can do is to reach out to and ask for help. I am offering that help. No Judgement.

I believe that relationships are foundational for emotional health. Challenges faced in couples, families, and individual lives find healing in vulnerably reaching out to work through problems together. I provide a safe, judgement free area to help couples, individuals, and families face their problems. Talking about intimate details, such as sex, trauma, and shame, can be scary, and I am confident that reconnection and acceptance can be achieved. I am honored to be a part of your healing journey.

I am certified in EMDR, Brainspotting and Clinical Hypnotherapy, powerful mind-body therapies which facilitate healing at a deep/core level (not just symptom management). I integrate these modalities with talk therapies, however, results typically occur in much less time than traditional talk therapy alone.

Life often presents us with situations that can leave us feeling overwhelmed and unsure about how to move through them. Whether it's a loss of a loved one, transitions that cause us to rethink who we are and what we want, or events in which we've been harmed or mistreated - sometimes we all just need a space to explore our thoughts and feelings so that we can gain the confidence to move forward.

My approach to doing psychotherapy is a contemporary psychoanalytic approach. This approach is a form of psychotherapy which helps patients heal through the safe, mutual exploration of previous life experiences and current life circumstances. More importantly, transformation in psychoanalytic therapy occurs through the participation by the patient in a relationship with the therapist in which the two partners, through their mutual exploration of life history, relationships, and the here-and-now experience of relating in therapy, come to help patients heal wounds, know themselves better, and lead healthier and more satisfying lives.

You sit on your bed – heart pounding, face flushed, muscles tensed – still seething after the fight you just had with your partner. “This is it,” you tell yourself. “I can’t take anymore.” The arguments are becoming more frequent and hostile by the day. You remember when you loved being together. You used to look on with pity and bemusement at those married couples who always seemed to be in a state of continual conflict. But now you’re one of those couples. It’s painful and embarrassing to realize how fractured this once seemingly-unbreakable bond has become. You know that something has to change, but you just do not know how.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
