I see couples and individuals aged 16 and older working with betrayal trauma, sexual compulsivity, and building healthy relationships. I have a compassionate, attachment-based approach, but I am direct with my clients in an attempt to uncover barriers they have around connection and growth. I am a certified sex addiction therapist (CSAT), and also have advanced training in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT). So that I can be the best couple's therapist, I am also currently training as a certified sex therapist.

My approach draws from the work of narrative, existential, person-centered, and attachment-based therapies.
Mary Oliver says, "Whoever you are, no matter how lonely, the world offers itself to your imagination, calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting - over and over announcing your place in the family of things." I truly believe your life is inherently valuable and that your story has meaning. No matter where you're at, or what you've experienced, hope still beckons. Not with a guarantee of certainty, but with a promise of fullness, health, and belonging. I have a strong desire to help people face their biggest opportunities, challenges, and hurt in the pursuit of greater joy, peace, freedom, and ultimately, life.

You're hurt and angry and thinking, 'Why do we argue about the same things over and over again I am so tired of fighting! What happened to the way we used to be?' I know you're frustrated. Couples tell me how lonely they feel. You and your partner can be happy again, you can learn to turn towards eachother, reconnect emotionally, and create a more caring and fulfilling relationship. For more than 20 years I've worked with couples and families helping them find a better way to live and love and work together.

High conflict. Infidelity. Infertility. Problems with communication. Arguing about the same things over and over again and not feeling seen. Years have gone by, and many life adjustments feel like they are pulling you apart. The resentment feels insurmountable. You feel desperate and alone. You want to experience that love and connection that you felt years ago. It feels like you're losing hope of a fulfilling future in your relationship. I see you. You are safe and heard here. Zero judgment and open arms here.

Not accepting new clients at this time. You are NOT ALONE! We all feel lonely, depressed, anxious and/or angry when our relationships get stuck in unfulfilling patterns. I've been a therapist for over 30 years, married over 30 years and raised 2 (now adult) children. I know how hard it can be to develop connected, resilient, truly joyful relationships. I also know the rewards are worth it! I can help you become your "best self"; emotionally, socially, sexually, spiritually, physically and professionally. If old memories, losses, or traumas re-surface I incorporate EMDR (www.emdria.org) therapy to help you heal.

I believe that everyone has the tools within themselves which are necessary for healing. Therapy is a collaborative process to uncover those tools and help you increase your confidence in being able to access them whenever you need to get through life’s trials. Healing looks different for everyone, and everyone accesses healing in different ways. My favorite quote is from George Bernard Shaw- "Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself." I believe in the therapeutic process as a means to create the person and life of your dreams.

Life can be tough. We all have needs to connect with others and be seen for who we are, what we’ve been through, and how we can grow further. Maybe you’d like to find a better way to play the cards that life has dealt. As a therapist, I will journey with you as we sort through your strengths and challenges to find novel solutions. This may include facing difficult emotions, finding a way to tell someone you’re sorry (even if that someone is you), honing social skills, setting boundaries with loved ones or coworkers, dealing with a traumatic or overwhelming experience, or just balancing an already full and happy life.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
