Life doesn't always go as smoothly as we would like. Sometimes it feels impossible and hopeless to get through. Sometimes it seems things will never get better. We all have times where life doesn't go as planned and it seems like the darkness will never end.

Same week availability! Do you need a safe space to share your feelings and struggles without fear of judgement? Do you need something to change in your life or relationships? Are you ready to embark on a journey that, although difficult, will help you to THRIVE, not just SURVIVE? I am comfortable with and have experience working with many issues, but my favorite issue to help people battle is compulsive sexual behaviors, compulsive pornography use, and betrayal trauma as a result of those behaviors in others. It often feels like you are the only one struggling with these things, and like no one could ever understand.

I am passionate about breaking down the stigmas surrounding mental health. So often we find ourselves with negative thoughts and beliefs about ourselves, others, or the world around us that hold us back from understanding or seeing who we really are and what we can become. I seek to help individuals break down their negative and distorted thinking so they can see themselves and the world around them in a more healthy and positive way. I enjoy working with young adults and adults who struggle with a range of anxiety, depression, and negative views of self.

As your therapist, I am committed to always remember to be empathetic to you and your needs. I have a double master's degree, with second master's in Play Therapy. Children communicate their emotions through play. It can be difficult for adults to help a child communicate with issues when they have suffered a traumatic experience. (Abuse, Divorce, Adoption, Generational Trauma, or Fostered). They need a healing environment to rebuild trust, express emotions of fear and uncertainty, and feel relief from constant reminders of their traumatic experiences. Play therapy meets the needs for all ages from 2-18 and beyond.

As someone who has looked for a therapist a few times, I understand how challenging and intimidating that search can feel. So, thank you for being here, and for having the strength and self-compassion to do the hardest part of therapy, and reach out for help. Whether you struggle with feelings of inadequacy, anxiety, or hopelessness, therapy can help you extend grace to yourself and recognize your intrinsic worth. You deserve a safe space to vent your frustrations, explore your authentic self, silence the painful, isolating voices of trauma, and learn new ways to cope with the mental and emotional burdens you are facing.

I truly enjoy working with people of all ages and seeing how they grow and change. We all run into times of crisis or struggle and whether it is something that requires intensive work or maybe seems quite small, there is hope for the future. I have experience working with children in play therapy, and teens and adults using an eclectic and person centered approach including CBT, ACT, psychoanalysis, DBT, as well as other modalities. I am one of three therapists in the area that have been trained in Trauma Conversion Therapy which is amazing for trauma, anxiety, depression, and OCD.

My ideal clients come in with past traumas that they are hoping to heal from. These trauma's could be childhood traumas, relationship abuse, military trauma, child birth traumas, or sexual dysfuntions that resulted in traumatic experiences. I truly believe that more healing happens from resolving trauma than nearly anything else. My goal for therapy is to help you heal, to help bring joy and light back into your life. You are not defined by the experiences you have had and they shouldn't alter your happiness. Healing from trauma is one of the most rewarding experiences that can happen in therapy. I believe you can do it!

I find that an attachment-based, developmental lens is best when working with clients.
I love working with clients (especially children, adolescents, and families!) from diverse backgrounds who are looking to find answers and solve any issues they may be struggling with. I am passionate about my work and believe in radical acceptance of all people. I am an LGBTQ+ affirmative psychologist. As a mother of five children, I understand many of the issues that families face and I strive to be a caring, upfront, and empathic psychologist who helps clients work toward achieving their goals. I also offer psychological testing.

We offer an attachment-based perspective.
Does it seem like you take care of everyone else, but have difficulty taking care of you? Do you wish you felt better about yourself and wish you could create healthier and happier relationships? We are here to help. In 2002, I had a vision of gathering a group of excellent clinicians to be a mental health and family relationship resource for our community. My vision has been realized! I have an excellent team of colleagues at At Wasatch Family Therapy. We will guide you through the therapy process in a comfortable atmosphere that will put you at ease, and help you make the changes you desire. We work with clients as young as 3+.

I utilize a lot of experiential methods, as well as traditional talk therapy such as CBT, Mindfulness, and Attachment-based approaches.
Have you ever felt ashamed? Ever felt like others don’t understand you, but say they do? Those have been my own experiences and have led me to work with people in recovery and their families, survivors of domestic violence/abuse, minority communities and teens. I come from a multi-cultural family with an immigrant parent which has both enriched my life and created unique struggles for me. These experiences, however, have helped me empathize with a wide variety of people and situations. My goals are to support my clients as they navigate their struggles and find hope and strength within themselves.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
