Life can feel overwhelming and confusing when we are met with expectations that do not align with authentic self. I believe positive and effective change can happen once we become more confident and empowered within ourselves. I work with individuals to feel confident to make effective change within their life in order meet their personal and therapeutic goals. I primarily work individuals with disrupted attachments related to childhood trauma, and sexual trauma; in addition to depression, anxiety, OCD (specifically, Relationship-OCD, Contamination-OCD, Perfectionism-OCD), and personality disorders.

You feel disconnected from life & from your body. You struggle to connect in your relationships, are unhappy in your career, feel hopeless for the future or move through the world in a fog. You’ve been shamed for who you are & now you speak to yourself with harshness & can’t ever feel like enough inside your own head. You’ve been told that who you are is somehow inherently flawed. I help people increase compassion, reduce shame and feel a greater sense of belonging within themselves and their bodies.

I believe therapy is a great way to create a deeper connection with yourself and others in order to improve your quality of life. Therapy is a wonderful way to create a new sense of balance in your life that can sometimes get lost in focus throughout the hardships we face. Together we can work to get you back on your feet and learn new techniques and tools to help you during those difficult and confusing times. My passion is to help people on their journey to finding happiness. I understand that it can be hard to reach out and ask for help but I strive to create a safe and comfortable environment, without judgement.

I believe in the transformative power of the therapeutic relationship - as a site for activation, reflection, examination, change, and corrective emotional experiences. So often the very things that have helped protect us throughout our lives also create barriers and challenges. Therapy offers us a space to slow down and explore these defenses and patterns, and to develop healthier alternatives. We will work collaboratively to reach mutual understanding, honest emotional expression, and to acknowledge and nourish your true self, in all of its complexity - which will hopefully lead to a more authentic, vibrant, fulfilling life.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
