I use a variety of techniques including trauma-informed, attachment-based, somatic, and mindful self compassion to create real and lasting change.
I specialize in helping people change behaviors that are harming their relationships and keeping them from living to their fullest potential. Together, we find what is causing anxiety, depression, irritability, or "the blahs." Many people have patterns in their behaviors or relationships that are stuck repeating and don't know why. Using evidence-based practices to inform our work, we can uncover what's underneath these symptoms to get you lasting relief. I also specialize in working with folks in the queer community, poly and open relationship issues.

I have been in practice as a licensed psychologist for the past 28 years in Marin County where I was also born and have raised my two boys. My approach is integrative as it considers all relevant biological, psychological and environmental influences on a person’s well-being and areas of distress. Therapy sessions leave ample space for attachment-based processing of one's inner struggles and vulnerabilities as they naturally arise in the midst of a caring therapeutic relationship. They also include collaborative, practical, and hands-on problem solving as well as exploration of CBT strategies appropriate to the developmental age.

I have extensive training in DBT, EMDR, psychodynamic and attachment-based therapies, and practice from a trauma-informed approach.
Anaïs Nin wrote "we see the world not as it is, but as we are." Without self-reflection, we can all fall into old patterns and behaviors which no longer serve us. With self-reflection we can make sense of our worldview and become active agents of change and growth in our own lives. I have about 20 years of clinical experience practicing psychotherapy in a variety of settings.

Hi my name is Daniel and I help young people (and the young at heart) to have more connected and meaningful relationships with their families. Is your family experiencing high levels of conflict? Is your young person acting out at home or at school? Is your young person (or are you) questioning their/your gender identity or sexuality? Do you want a more harmonious family life? If you find yourself here asking one of these questions, I am here to support you and your family. I work with teens, adults and families to support them in building stronger connections and more secure attachments using a relational approach.

Clinical psychotherapy is a process of deepening self awareness and strengthening authenticity. The subtle art of therapy occurs by taking an honest look at emotional patterns and behaviors, and understanding and liberating any shame that exists at the core which frequently fuels mental health disorders. I specialize in working with teens and their families, and am trained in EMDR and Attachment Based Family Therapy. I have been in practice for over 10 years in this community. The gift of psychotherapy is the ability to be in charge of ourselves with confidence, emotional intelligence, and deep inner peace.

I trained primarily in psychodynamic, family systems and attachment-based therapies.
Therapy is a collaborative relationship, as individual as the people in the room. Often the work involves slowing down and creating a secure space for being open, curious and able to revisit and make sense of thoughts, memories and feelings that give rise to present difficulties. I'm especially attentive to your higher powers of perception and positive self determination. Together we resolve present-day problems with roots in the past, changing patterns that produce familiar and unwanted results so you are freer to choose the life you want.

I love to help individuals, couples and parents thrive in their life/ lives together. I use an attachment based model that helps my clients experience their strengths individually and as a couple. Together, from this place grounded in your resilience, we will work with your challenges. Trauma, attachment woundings, communication issues, addiction, as well as avoidance of feelings and intimacy can block us from living the full, healthy lives we long for. I have already helped many clients find another way. I believe you can too and we can find it together.

I use an attachment-based, emotion-focused, and embodied approach to therapy (including breathing, mindfulness, and sometimes movement).
Are you struggling with relationship issues, trapped in the cycle of addiction, or battling an eating disorder? Or maybe you're navigating the path of cult recovery or seeking liberation from a high-control group or religion? What about grappling with work burnout, perfectionism, or the existential dread of climate change? It's also possible everything looks "fine" on the surface but inside you're experiencing anxiety, depression, and/or obsessions and compulsions. Whatever is causing your dis-ease, I'm sorry you're going through this tough time, and I'm so happy that you're here. You are not alone and your pain is valid.

I utilize a variety of modalities, including CBT, DBT, and attachment-based therapy.
The choice to begin the therapeutic process is a powerful step in the direction of growth, healing, and a deeper source of empathy for oneself. I view therapy as a foundation of support with moving through whatever hardships may come your way, whether that means navigating grief, trauma, or the struggles of daily life.

Modalities I utilize include DBT, EMDR, narrative therapy, and attachment-based therapy (for individuals and families).
You made it here, and that is no small thing. Therapy is an opportunity to grow, heal, and expand your experience. This is time that you carve out for yourself: to be heard, seen, and understood. It’s a place for you to have someone in your corner who can help sift through the choices, complexities, and challenges that you are facing. I have a particular knack for working with young folks and their families in finding ways of communication that are assertive, clear, and regulated.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
