I have counseled a variety of clients and value each one as an individual even when they are part of a couple or family unit. I understand it is hard to decide to make an appointment. However, by making that decision now, we can join together in a safe space and talk openly about your source of pain, your struggles, your challenges. We will take the time to break your solutions into manageable pieces. My goal in therapy is progress but it all starts with you. Contact me today for a free phone consultation so that we may get to know each other and decide together what is your best course of action.

We all have struggles in life. But we don’t have to be defined by our struggles. Whether you’re struggling with mental health issues like anxiety or depression, issues of grief and loss, relationship issues, workplace tension, unresolved childhood trauma, or just need some help working through current life stressors, I’d be honored to help you find a way forward with strength, grace, dignity, and integrity. I believe it’s important to meet you where you are, listening intently to how you’re processing the hard stuff of life, and providing you with wise counsel, practical coping skills, and a safe place to practice being different.

Every life has seasons and circumstances where the trail changes and the journey becomes difficult. Sometimes the stones are masterfully laid and the walking is smooth, sometimes the stones serve as steps to get us to where we want to go, and sometimes the stones are such a mess that we can barely figure out the next safe step. I want to come alongside you with compassionate, knowledgeable, and encouraging support to get you to where you can experience a manageable trail to walk. The goal is to equip you with the tools and skills to navigate a satisfying, healthy, and balanced life. I look forward to helping you on your path.

We all struggle with something. Taking the first step toward living a more meaningful, fulfilling life is a big jump for some. I know what it feels like to sit in the client's chair and how scary it can be to get started in therapy. When I was younger, I found myself burdened by debilitating anxiety, depression, and a lot of unhelpful coping mechanisms which resulted in feeling stuck, loneliness, and relational problems with family, friends, and romantic partners alike. Does this sound familiar? If so, you may be the perfect client for me. I can't wait to meet you. Call or email to request an appointment today!

As a therapist who’s worked in the field for over 20 years, I look forward to helping others be the best version of themselves. I understand a variety of mental health issues due to working with various positions within the mental health field. I feel all my roles have given me the path to meet people where they are, assess the need and use the skills I have learned along the way. I believe in the process, understand setbacks, flaws and not being ok. I utilize strengths based and person-centered treatment to help others find their path.

You’re likely here because things aren’t going well and you’re stuck. That’s OK! This is a normal experience everybody faces – I've been there too, it’s part of being human. Hear this: there is no problem you’re facing that can’t be made better in some way. I work with adults and teens get past these sticking points, supporting people experiencing addiction, suicidal ideation, mood issues, life changes, and relationship problems - people who want to find true purpose and meaning regardless of what's happened to them or what’s happening inside of them.

I like to think I have a unique skill set coupled with life experience that equips me to be a dynamic therapist. I served as a Marine in the military, spent 20 years working in the pathology field looking at healing the body and now work with clients from 5 years to older adult healing the mind. Therapy is difficult to navigate and can feel messy for the whole system (friends, family, work, school, and more). I value your experience and how that has shaped core beliefs. Because we have these core beliefs, doesn't make them true. Let's assign new rules to these beliefs and heal the system as a whole both in body and mind.

Chronic Illness Therapists

How does therapy for chronic illness work?

Many people living with a chronic illness may feel they cannot speak honestly about their experience out of embarrassment or fear of being a burden, or because those close to them do not understand, for example, that they may “look good” even if they do not feel good. Therapy sessions are an opportunity to speak openly with someone who knows their symptoms are not in their head and who can offer practical, proven suggestions for managing feelings of grief, shame, or fatigue, such as techniques to challenge unhelpful thoughts about symptoms and develop new ways to respond to them, such as distraction or calming breathing practices.

Can therapy help with physical symptoms of chronic illness?

Yes, especially if an individual with chronic illness has developed depression. People with depression are less likely to maintain their health treatment regimens or to take positive steps to manage physical symptoms when they arise, thereby potentially complicating their medical prognosis. Treatment of depression, through talk therapy, medication, or both, will often improve one’s physical state as it eases the emotional burden of illness.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic illness?

No one living with a chronic illness, or their loved ones, should see depression as an unavoidable result of their condition. Instead, they should actively seek treatment. Research shows that people with depression are less likely to devote the required time and effort to maintaining or monitoring their health, and so therapy to limit the risk of depression can be vital for physical health as well. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness-based stress reduction have been found to help individuals reduce stress and anxiety.

How long does therapy for chronic illness take?

There is no set timeline for therapy for people living with chronic illnesses, but many will see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 weekly sessions. Some people feel that they experience progress faster than others but even some who quickly feel improvement may continue with sessions for months or years. Some people may benefit from maintenance therapy if their symptoms change or they experience a decline in physical health. Others find that the skills learned in short-term therapy can be used on an ongoing basis, even after therapy has concluded.
