Intimacy/Sexual issues can be difficult to discuss and people are reluctant. In Fact, many people struggle with feelings of inadequacy/lack of fulfillment in relation to their sexual experience. Sexual dysfunctions affect both men and women. My desire is to help people struggling with sexual problems and to help people live a more fulfilled intimacy/sexual life. I provide a non-judgmental place for people to safely articulate their concerns. I will help you figure out what is causing these struggles work to resolve them. The first step is to reach out for help.

Here you are, at a fork in the road... feeling vulnerable about what to do or where to go. At times it feels like no one understands what you're going through because no one is in your shoes. No one has experienced what you have. Maybe those around you are at a loss for how to best support you. Maybe you've even withheld the full story from those you love because of fear or judgment. And all of that is okay. The great joy of therapy is experiencing that "light bulb" moment of validation, insight, and direction. Even if there isn't an answer, it's nice knowing you're heard and understood. Let's turn process into progress, together.

Life can feel messy; and it is at times a place of stagnation, chaos, or just confusion. I challenge individuals to identify themselves, their passions, and to grow beyond the mask that life pushes us to wear as a means of protection or out of fear. It is in true authenticity that we find freedom and joy to move from isolation or bondage to freedom and fullness. It is in freedom where we no longer have to choose living in fear, rejection, pain, and/or competition but can chose to live with depth, substance, love, and understanding.

SELF-ESTEEM. At times we actually believe we are not good enough, even if we wear a mask of confidence. WORRY. If we all do it, then why do some of us seem to just be able to “shake it off” while the rest of us lay awake at night tormenting ourselves? BROKEN TRUST. It destroys more than just the relationship. It can make us emotionally withdraw all together, fearing it will all happen again if we let our guard down. LOSS. The one thing we as humans will all experience in our lifetime. Unfortunately, some more than others but the effects are devastating none the less.

I am passionate about working with families and their children. My goal is to help my clients identify what they can improve and guide them through achieving their personal goals, whether as an individual or a family unit. I thrive in working with teens and young adults who struggle with anxiety disorder, help my clients learn how to identify and engage in social and emotional life skills, and strongly encourages self-love and acceptance as a key tool in becoming a healthy, functioning individual. I apply cognitive approaches to engage clients in identifying root issues, processing those difficulties, and working through them.

“Seeing with the eyes of another, listening with the ears of another, and feeling with the heart of another.” ― Alfred Adler. I believe that when we offer encouragement, we can empower ones we support so they can be best equipped to face life’s daily challenges. When working together my orientation will entail encouragement, acceptance, and creation of self-worth and meaning. Since starting my journey as a licensed counselor I have worked to provide crisis interventions and a supportive environment through individual, family, and group therapy sessions.

I like to think I have a unique skill set coupled with life experience that equips me to be a dynamic therapist. I served as a Marine in the military, spent 20 years working in the pathology field looking at healing the body and now work with clients from 5 years to older adult healing the mind. Therapy is difficult to navigate and can feel messy for the whole system (friends, family, work, school, and more). I value your experience and how that has shaped core beliefs. Because we have these core beliefs, doesn't make them true. Let's assign new rules to these beliefs and heal the system as a whole both in body and mind.

For many years my clients have primarily been individuals, groups, and families coming out of abusive and sometimes violent relationships and addiction. Although that was the original primary focus, most of them also struggled with other accompanying factors like depression, anxiety and other serious mental health diagnoses. My clinical focus has recently shifted to more of a community-based population. I have found this work incredibly rewarding. I enjoy working with additional needs such as grief, prenatal, postpartum depression, and abandonment trauma to name a few.

Life isn't always easy and our expectations of what our life should look like now, often doesn't meet our expectations. This is why I help couples, pre-marital couples and individuals in many life circumstances, such as infidelity, big traumas, small traumas, depression, anxiety, feelings like your not good enough, not worthy. If you want to grow and achieve your goals for your life I would be honored to help you. How you overcome these obstacles is what should define you, not the hurt. If you would like to live in the future not in the past, then I am the right therapist for you, your goals are my goals.

Your goals for your life are important to me, and getting you to where you want to be in life is where I can help. I am specially trained to help clients through the therapeutic process. Life is hard sometimes. The unexpected happens, but how you overcome these obstacles is what should define you, not the hurt or your past, but your future. One of my mottos is, "The path of healing is to look at ourselves and others with loving eyes-it isn't about being perfect" I have the experience to help you through your hardships regardless of what they may be non-judgementally, and at a pace that is comfortable for you.

I have over 20 years’ experience with adoptive families, children, and attachment. I am passionate about helping family, parents, and children navigate BIG changes in healthy ways. I understand first hand, being a parent of 6 beautiful adopted children myself, the challenges, emotions, fears, and successes that can come up along the way. I am skilled in attachment & view this as critical to understanding how people develop and navigate relationships. I consider myself an expert in Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and can spot these symptoms and behaviors in both children and adults. Early intervention is KEY to successful outcomes.

Are you an exhausted parent who just needs someone to listen? Someone who understands your world? As a special needs mom, I see you. I see your struggles and I am here to help you navigate these waters. I help special needs parents who wish they could just relax and enjoy the moment, and not worry about the future. But they feel emotionally drained by the demands of living in a state of hyper-vigilance, so they never quite get around to living the life they really want. I offer individual and couples sessions to address the challenges that autism families face and try to work toward goals of balancing family stability.

I believe in joining with you in the "muck" and "mire" that sometimes life can give us to increase your confidence in reaching your goals. Therapy is hard work, but together, we can make this less scary.

Life can hit hard. Stress and heartache can build over time or it can explode instantly into one big mess. Most of the time you can get through ok on your own but sometimes it's just too much to keep going solo. Worries, bad memories, feeling overwhelmed, kids/significant other driving you nuts, or wanting to just hide in bed can take over. Sometimes you need a friendly ear to help you figure out what happened and how to get out of the mess without feeling judged or looked down on. Someone who can help you feel like you again, happy, hopeful, confident, empowered!

What type of Greenbrier mental health professional is right for me?
While most types of therapy have a lot in common, they also fall into clusters that share core features, such as cognitive therapies or psychodynamic approaches. It is important to seek someone who practices evidence-based therapy, meaning one or more forms of treatment that have been scientifically evaluated and tested, and demonstrate consistent improvement for a majority of patients.

If you are unsure about choosing the right therapist, it might be useful to first learn more about therapy types and modalities.
How to find a therapist in Greenbrier?
When looking to find a therapist, it is certainly important to consider training and credentials. Studies also indicate that the therapeutic alliance, or the relationship the client develops with the therapist, is an important factor in their ability to work together to achieve the client’s goals.

What method of therapy is right for me?
When it comes to treatment methods, there's no 'right way.’ Each method of therapy can be beneficial for a variety of issues. Finding a psychologist or therapist who is a good fit for you is the most important step to discovering what type of therapy, or combination of therapeutic approaches, will meet your individual needs. Learn what to expect from different types of therapy and how they work.

How to use my insurance?
Understanding cost and insurance coverage is an important concern for many people. With some basic research and conversations with prospective therapists, you should be able to have a good understanding of the best way to afford therapy.
