You want the best for yourself (or your child). The story you tell of your experiences deserves to be heard. We all deserve to have space to be deeply understood at any age. It's my desire to provide understanding; listening that is so healing. I work with children, teens, adults to build lasting skills and resources for them. I value working with individuals that are learning to navigate their identities in an overstimulating world. Clients and I work together to process, and build skills in order to meet their treatment goals and create enduring healing. I have a deep love for Vermont and my aim is to support our community.

People seek therapy for many reasons, but common goals include personal growth, acceptance, and understanding. You might be considering therapy because you're feeling overwhelmed or dissatisfied with aspects of your life, whether due to depression, anxiety, grief, managing a medical diagnosis, caregiving for others, or challenges in parenting, career, or relationships. If you're looking for a place to talk about your experiences, build coping skills, and process emotions, you have taken the first step in the process of change: acknowledging that there is an issue.

Our work together, tailored to each individual, offers the opportunity to help you to take charge of your thoughts, feelings and behaviors along with raising self-esteem, nurturing oneself in healthy, positive ways, releasing your emotional pain and assertively taking care of yourself with others. Childhood issues often create unidentified patterns that work silently in the background to sabotage you accomplishing your goals in life. I work interactively from a Mindfulness based approach as well as Cognitive-Behavioral, Family Systems and Psychodynamic Therapies.

Being a human is not easy. We search for our meaning and purpose all while the world spins a web of uncertainty, making it difficult to feel safe- which can leave us anxious, hopeless, and estranged from what makes us happy. My goal as a therapist has always been to support my clients, both teenagers and adults, in looking at their lives to identify their meaning and purpose and to build skills to accept and move through difficult emotions. I am of the firm belief that confronting those things that are hardest, with the support of others, can break the overwhelm of anxiety, the frustrations of ADHD, and the domination of OCD.

I work with adults experiencing a range of difficulties associated with trauma, depression, ADHD, chronic pain/illness, and anxiety. When working with clients, I utilize an ecological framework to conceptualize my clients' difficulties and strengths beyond mental health, working to understand how the community, relationships, and physical health also play a role so I can better support my clients in meeting their goals.

I have experience with acute mental health crisis, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, adoption, ADHD, substance misuse, and a variety of other life situations.
Life presents challenges sometimes. Learning how to access our resiliency, explore negative thought patterns, and strengthen new positive beliefs assists us in creating and maintaining a thriving daily life. I recognize that each person is diverse, having a unique family, social, and cultural history, and that healing and growth can be dependent on numerous factors. I use therapy methods that help bridge communication with children, youth and adults. I hold also hold BA in studio art that contributes to the creativity element of my work with individuals.

Areas of Focus: Anxiety, Depression, ADHD, PTSD, Grief/Loss, PDD, BiPolar.
I am committed to effect change through the process of psychotherapy using a direct, reality based approach. Although I draw from many different therapeutic modalities, my theoretical orientation is consistent with cognitive-behavioral theories. I believe social learning, modeling, and reinforcement all play a significant role in how ones personality developes, how one thinks, behaves, & feels as they get older. I believe refuting negative and irrational thinking will likely increase healthy feelings and behaviors that will greatly impact ones overall wellbeing. I believe that effective communication is the key to building healthy relationships, rebuilding severed relationships, & strengthening present ones.

ADHD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
