Using evidence based approaches such as mindfulness based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), I bring empathy and cultural sensitivity to my work.
Is fear preventing you from doing what you need to do? When you look around you, does it seem as if everyone else has got their lives figured out, and you're still stuck in a rut? All of us carry beliefs about ourselves that were formed from our experiences and from what others have said about us. Even though we may be able to recognize some of these beliefs as untrue, sometimes we just cannot shake off the feeling that perhaps we are just not good enough. If this speaks to what you've been going through, I can help.

Using a Person-Centered approach enhanced with CBT, SFBT and other behavioral and existential techniques, we will work towards gaining insight and improving coping skills that can be applied to all areas of your life.
Loss doesn’t only occur when someone dies. At times, the grief that accompanies loss can be debilitating. Whether it is caused by the death of a loved one, the loss of a relationship, the loss of an opportunity, or the loss of faith in ourselves or our world, grief can make us question everything we know. But you don’t have to go through this alone. Together we can work through the pain of grief to accept the reality of the loss and adjust to living a new and fulfilling life.

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is my primary modality of therapy, as it is one of the most evidence-based treatments for PTSD.
Making the decision to come to therapy, whether for the first time or returning to it, is a choice that takes a lot of courage! I primarily work with adults with PTSD who struggle with flashbacks, intrusive thoughts, or avoidance behaviors that are impacting their quality of life and relationships with others. In looking at your patterns of thinking, I'll teach you skills to think more flexibly and to move away from feelings of blame, guilt, and shame. I have worked with a wide variety of people, including individuals with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, Active Duty Service Members and Veterans, and folks who have legal involvement

I enjoy variety and, as such, like to invite clients from all walks of life. I'm experienced with therapeutic concerns including trauma, identity questions, relational and sexual issues, depression/anxiety, substance use, and compulsivity. I like supporting clients struggling with their own behavior or relationships, maybe searching for meaning in their experiences. I love working with queer people, both sexual and gender minorities. I also really enjoy teens 14yo+. I match best with motivated, curious people and I prioritize in-person work (I offer virtual sessions as a plan-b for illness or scheduling issues).

I want to learn about your unique life experiences that have made you who you are. Your perspectives, passions, interests, and aspirations serve as invaluable tools in therapy and can help guide us towards the growth and future you envision. I strongly believe that therapy is an experience that must be built from trust and collaboration and I aspire to maintain a space same and judgment free. As such, I believe that being respectful and mindful of contextual factors that impact our lives (e.g., race, gender, sexual orientation, and religion/ spirituality) is an integral aspect of therapy.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists

How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?

Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
