I believe finding a therapist you genuinely trust and feel safe with is the most essential piece to gain from any therapeutic intervention. As such, I strongly encourage you to be patient with yourself and listen to how you feel when searching for that fit. I value transparency; my style is compassionately direct. Psychotherapy can be uncomfortable because the process involves approaching the barriers that restrict you. In our work, we will approach discomfort together as I believe exposure and empowerment are catalysts for true change and personal growth.

Anxiety, depression, and the impact of trauma in our life and story often prevents us from living the life we yearn for. Martin Buber once said, “All real living is meeting.” We humans seem built for connection, for meeting, for encounter. We thrive when we are able to deeply see and be seen by another. Yet, all humans also experience barriers to connection. How can psychotherapy help? Psychotherapy can become a place to experience belonging and attunement, to discover ways there have been maladaptive patterns of disconnection in your life, and to imagine new ways of living that will bring you relational healing.

Looking for a therapist is HARD, so I'm going to get straight to the point. I might be a good therapist for you if any of the following fit: 1) you have experienced trauma and it is getting in the way of living your life fully, 2) you've had years of talk therapy, but aren't seeing the change that you want in your life, 3) you can't help feeling like you are both "too much" and "not enough" at the same time, 4) you were the "sensitive" or "emotional" one in your family, 5) you hate feeling misunderstood or misinterpreted, and yet this seems to keep happening to you, 6) you struggle to find time for your own interests or self-care.

Anand, a concept rooted in Eastern philosophies, embodies human happiness and bliss. Yet, as we build upon our story, unexamined layers can create barriers, making it harder to fully connect with this natural state of well-being. Therapy is a journey of self-discovery—one where we co-create a space to unwind your narrative, find healing, and build trust in your innate wisdom. I invite you to cultivate self-awareness that not only guides your everyday experience but strengthens your capacity for growth and resilience. I support individuals navigating grief, anxiety, depression, life transitions, and trauma/attachment concerns.

The relationship I develop with both individuals and partners seeks to prioritize and build value around your own unique identity, as well as your singular and/or cultural understanding of wellness, safety, trust, and strength. Together we will explore the intersections of mind, body, community, and spirit to find new ways of being in the world that foster a lively and meaningful life. I consider you to be the expert of the meaning you pursue, and I value time spent letting you in on the “secret” of the therapeutic process so we can bend it to your individual need. I am LGBTQ+ affirming, as well as polyamory and kink affirming.

During our lives, we encounter experiences that can move us away from a direct connection to ourselves. Influences from family, friends, peers, jobs, and the greater culture can affect how we view and express ourselves. We can become conditioned to thinking, feeling and behaving in a way that is incompatible with who we really are and what we want in our lives. This compromises our ability to value our unique identity and to express and apply ourselves, and our strengths. I will help you to identify, understand and remove barriers that are keeping you from realizing your fullest potential. I only offer Telehealth in California.

I enjoy helping others to build deep, meaningful connections with not only those in their lives but their own central sense of self and system of values. In particular, I enjoy finding ways to bring geek and gamer cultural interests into therapy and utilize the things that bring people joy while providing a safe, supportive environment to explore their own life experiences while building on the supports that have helped them navigate their lives. I take a very humanistic approach to counseling that encourages honesty and openness since we're ultimately all just people trying to figure it out day by day.

Is fear holding you back from doing what you need to do? Does everyone else seem like they've got their lives figured out, while you're still stuck in a rut? All of us carry beliefs about ourselves that were formed from our past experiences. We also strive to meet expectations, from both ourselves and others. Though we may recognize some of these as unfounded beliefs or unrealistic expectations, sometimes we just can't shake off the feeling that perhaps we're just not good enough. We might feel lost, as if we've been left behind while others have moved on with their lives. If this is what you're going through right now, I can help.

Something within you has led you here. Something yearning for understanding, change, or acceptance. Maybe you feel anxious, overwhelmed, stuck in holding patterns, tending old wounds or wondering "What's next?" Whatever is present for you, it is my honor to meet you where you are, as you are, with compassion and curiosity. My goal as a counselor is to create a nonjudgmental, supportive space for you to connect with your truth. All of us are already whole, and therapy is a way to return to that knowing. I'm inspired by my clients' wisdom and creativity as they explore the highs and lows of their experience and find a way forward.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
