Chances are you've been feeling symptoms of anxiety, depression, and/or ADHD. Life feels overwhelming, getting out of bed is hard, you feel fearful over seemingly small things, you can’t seem to focus, you constantly lose things, you feel out of control, and what’s even worse: all of these symptoms and feelings are negatively interfering with your quality of life. You want help, but finding a primary care provider or mental health professional seems overwhelming and waits are too long.

I have worked extensively with neurodivergent (Autism, ADHD, 2E) individuals and take a strength based approach to working with what keeps people going.
I enjoy helping others to build deep, meaningful connections with not only those in their lives but their own central sense of self and system of values. In particular, I enjoy finding ways to bring geek and gamer cultural interests into therapy and utilize the things that bring people joy while providing a safe, supportive environment to explore their own life experiences while building on the supports that have helped them navigate their lives. I take a very humanistic approach to counseling that encourages honesty and openness since we're ultimately all just people trying to figure it out day by day.

Depression, anxiety, and the impact of trauma in our life and story often prevents us from living the life we yearn for. Martin Buber once said, “All real living is meeting.” We humans seem built for connection, for meeting, for encounter. We thrive when we are able to deeply see and be seen by another. Yet, all humans also experience barriers to connection. How can psychotherapy help? Psychotherapy can become a place to experience belonging and attunement, to discover ways there have been maladaptive patterns of disconnection in your life, and to imagine new ways of living that will bring you relational healing.

The relationship I develop with both individuals and partners seeks to prioritize and build value around your own unique identity, as well as your singular and/or cultural understanding of wellness, safety, trust, and strength. Together we will explore the intersections of mind, body, community, and spirit to find new ways of being in the world that foster a lively and meaningful life. I consider you to be the expert of the meaning you pursue, and I value time spent letting you in on the “secret” of the therapeutic process so we can bend it to your individual need. I am LGBTQ+ affirming, as well as polyamory and kink affirming.

I want to learn about your unique life experiences that have made you who you are. Your perspectives, passions, interests, and aspirations serve as invaluable tools in therapy and can help guide us towards the growth and future you envision. I strongly believe that therapy is an experience that must be built from trust and collaboration and I aspire to maintain a space same and judgment free. As such, I believe that being respectful and mindful of contextual factors that impact our lives (e.g., race, gender, sexual orientation, and religion/ spirituality) is an integral aspect of therapy.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?
You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.
How does treatment for ADHD work?
Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.
Are there specific medications for ADHD?
Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.
How long does treatment for ADHD take?
It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
