I have worked for years with trauma in many presentations from the obvious traumas of abuse and assault to the subtle traumas that may be difficult to even put into words.
Have you gone through a troubling experience? Is it difficult to move on in the aftermath? Maybe, it feels as if you are always going through challenging life experiences, or a lifetime of distress? Are you ready to do something about it, maybe even desperate to? I would love to help. I understand that one of the hardest things to do can be to ask for help and be willing to receive it. I want to help.

Each of us deserve to lead a happy and healthy life. Yet life's challenges can be overwhelming and seem unresolvable. I provide non-judgmental feed-back to help you clarify those challenges, your goals, options and your own inner strengths. Knowing our strengths and making our own choices are steps toward the life we want. My experience includes trauma (such as sexual abuse and other issues specific to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), victims of domestic abuse and/or violence, mood disorders, depression, alcohol and drug issues and those with dual diagnoses.

I have over 25 years of training and experience in treating female and male survivors of sexual abuse, domestic violence and childhood abuse.
I believe that we all have the ability to grow and change and sometimes we need help in order to do so. The therapeutic relationship can be a place for connection, healing, insight and acceptance.

Giving yourself a space dedicated to self-reflection is so helpful. I work with adolescents, often highly accomplished adults, and couples in my practice. I help clients meet their own goals by building a strong relationship, encouraging reflection, and exploring alternatives. I am warm, engaging, and well trained. In my work with clients, we look at the influence of a client's family-of-origin, their current stressors and challenges, and the relationship that unfold between the client and myself. I assist my clients to work through their challenges, so they have more choices to live a more authentic life.

Infidelity leaves us feeling hopeless, defeated, and angry. Maybe you’re someone who has always said infidelity is a “dealbreaker” but now find yourself facing this with your partner, hoping it isn’t actually the dealbreaker you’ve always known it to be. You may be experiencing symptoms of anxiety, depression, or searching for solutions after an affair that has left you feeling hopeless and out of control. But you’re ready to move forward. You’re ready to take one step forward, toward healing. Most of all, you’re ready to be on the other side of this seemingly insurmountable hill, I want to help you get there.

Congratulations on taking this first step towards re-authoring your life. In my practice I avoid labeling as much as possible, as the negative labels we assign ourselves often hold us back. I have a diverse experience and have found that it is important for me to be diverse with my approach. I will meet you where you are and be creative with my interventions. You are unique and so our work together shall be. Come as you are and without judgments we will move you on the path of health and wellness towards your goals.

I am extremely passionate about empowering individuals, couples and families to heal and live their best, most authentic lives. I strongly believe that each and every individual, regardless of background, ability, or beliefs, should have a safe space where they can feel comfortable being their true self. I know that sitting across from someone with similar experiences can help to build trust and promote connection, and am therefore deeply committed to holding space for those who need to be heard.

When I first became a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist 19 years ago, our understanding of how past traumas and attachment wounds affected us in the present, and how to effectively treat trauma and attachment wounds was very minimal. Since that time, extensive research, studies, theories and practices have broadened our knowledge of trauma's impact on the mind and body and expanded the variety of tools and resources available to support therapists. I can honestly say I have never loved my work as a trauma/attachment-focused therapist more than I do right now.

I help creatives and sensitive folks go deep in their therapy work so they can experience joyful relationships, better intimacy, and less stress & anxiety. I often hear from those I help that they waited many months or even years before seeking help from a professional. The same may be true for you. However, you do not have to keep suffering in silence. It is common that those living in distress feel like they are alone in their experiences; you do not have to feel alone anymore. We all have different starting points, and no one is better than the other. That is why professional care can be helpful for a variety of patients who face a variety of concerns. So no matter where you are in life, therapy aims to improve life, reach your goals , and find happiness your way.

My approach is eclectic and strengths-based, drawing from an array of modalities tailored to your unique needs and goals.

Sexual Abuse Therapists
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.
Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.
How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.
Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
