I’m a child therapist in San Jose specializing in play therapy for children. Play therapy allows children to express emotions, process experiences, and build coping skills in ways that feel natural and safe—without needing the right words. My play therapy space includes a variety of art and expressive materials, giving children multiple ways to communicate and work through challenges at their own pace. Through play, children gain emotional insight, regulation, and resilience.

Have you ever felt like you're constantly fighting an invisible battle with yourself? A battle with your body, your habits, or even the people closest to you? Do you find yourself wanting more from your relationships but feel stuck, frozen by fear or uncertainty? Maybe you’ve asked yourself, “Why can’t I just be better?” or “Why am I always feeling like this?” You might be carrying wounds from the past, perhaps from a time when you had to suppress your emotions just to feel safe or accepted. But now, those old coping mechanisms no longer work. Instead, they keep you distant from the connection and fulfillment you truly crave.

I believe that all of us, at different times in our lives, may face unexpected challenges. Whatever you may be feeling—overwhelm, sadness, worry, frustration, exhaustion, loneliness—if these feelings persist, you can find some relief, and you don’t have to do it alone. Taking the steps to start a professional relationship with a trusted therapist can be healing and life changing. As you explore and reflect on what may be happening in your life right now, you’ll gain greater clarity about what deeply matters most to you, and develop a more authentic connection to yourself and others you care about.

Trauma can leave you feeling stuck, disconnected, and unsure if you can trust yourself—but healing is possible. Sometimes anxiety crashes in waves, sometimes you feel numb, like life is happening around you but not inside you. There’s a voice inside that questions your worth, that whispers the pain is your fault. Memories of difficult experiences linger, making safety and presence feel impossible. It’s like you’re watching life through a foggy window, unsure how to fully step into yourself again. You’re here because you want to reclaim your sense of safety, trust yourself, and live fully as the confident woman you are meant to be.

I work primarily with teens and adults and specialize in a variety of presenting concerns: stress/anxiety, depression, grief/loss, PTSD/trauma, body image/disordered eating, relationship difficulties/boundaries, career/life transitions. Some of us enter therapy with very specific goals, other times the goals become more clear as therapy progresses. Either way, something that is necessary is an openness and willingness to participate. I understand that therapy can be overwhelming in the beginning, and that is why my goal is first and foremost to always ensure that you as the client feel as safe and comfortable as possible.

Are you feeling anxious or overwhelmed? Have you tried everything you can think of to solve the problem, change your circumstances, or just feel better on your own? If you're deep in the mire of anxiety and depression, trying to make a positive change, or just barely managing to make it through the day, it can be tough to think that things could be different. You can feel frustrated, disconnected, and stuck. Getting the right support can be the ticket to moving out of being stuck and taking steps toward living the life you'd like to be living.

Therapy is an amazing placebo. You do not NEED a therapist to learn, transform, and grow your awareness of yourself. I firmly believe whatever it is you are seeking to learn, change, or make peace with, you can do it. The benefit of working with a trained therapist who sees you, gives your sense of agency and innate wisdom the respect it deserves, and offers an outside perspective on your experience informed by evidenced-based theory and practice, is that the pace of growth is greatly accelerated.

My clients include children, teens, young adults, adults who are looking to expand their self-knowledge, heal and grow into the best version of themselves. My clients look for a safe place to talk about issues related to social justice, racial and economic struggles, purpose, social skills, trauma, relationship issues, low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, faith exploration and other struggles. My clients may be ambivalent about beginning therapy and I am open to forming a strong therapeutic alliance as a conduit for healing.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
