BOOK: hilarystevenson.com/book or text (405) 771-0046- -If effort was the key to a happy marriage, you’d have one by now. You bust your ass at everything. So when the harder you try in this relationship, the less happy you are, something isn’t adding up. The way I see it, you have three options: (A) You can keep searching for a cheap therapist that takes your insurance or hold off until you can “afford” it. Then find the perfect time in your schedule while getting your partner excited and on board. (B) Do nothing, accept this is as good as it gets, and just suck it up; or (C) Book this session online now before you change you mind.

You want to live in the present, yet you feel trapped in the past. Despite having aspirations, the grip of depression & anxiety have left you feeling stuck in a never-ending loop. You feel like you are just going through the motions of life, without any real purpose or joy. Depression drains your energy & motivation level. Anxiety gets you spiraling down a rabbit hole of negative thoughts, “if onlys,” & “what ifs,” leading to an endless stream of self-doubt & self-criticism. The possibility of negative outcomes & painful memories lead to a constant state of unease, making it difficult to appreciate the positive aspects of life.

I am an affirming therapist who enjoys working with various populations. I have worked with individuals struggling with mental health and addiction issues. I work with these individuals to develop tools to cope with and overcome the obstacles in their lives such as toxic messaging, depression, anxiety, and substance issues. I will work with my clients to develop problem solving skills, self esteem, and reframing their thoughts and behaviors to work for them rather than against them. I want my clients to believe in themselves. I believe that my clients are worthy of love, respect, and support.

Getting lost in the chaos of emotional turmoil can feel disorienting and demoralizing. Our sense of direction and control is wrecked on the rocks of circumstance and reactivity. Are you feeling like no matter what you do you always find yourself backed into the corner of self-doubt and decision paralysis? Are you feeling locked into self-destructive thought and behavioral patterns? Have you convinced yourself that your worst negative core beliefs are true and unchangeable? There is another way.

As a leader you always end up holding more responsibilities than you signed up for. This mysterious phenomenon crosses into every area of your life. You’ve found joy in creating a family and becoming successful in your career. But on the way to accomplishing your many goals, you seem to have lost some vital part of yourself. Helping others has been your passion and it certainly has its rewards. But lately, you’ve realized something is missing. Anxiety and depression are nipping at your heels. The mountain of tasks that’s always waiting for you is starting to feel like a meaningless slog up an endless hill.

We all experience challenges and opportunities to grow and emerge stronger. I believe most humans instinctively move toward higher ground. Sometimes we need someone to walk alongside us who can help keep hope kindled and discover new, less painful, costly routes on the climb. I've had the privilege to journey with clients for over 23 years. My passion is working with those who've been marginalized or who experience themselves on the edges of community. I love witnessing clients do hard things, sit in difficult places, and face what scares them most.

You might feel like you’re drowning AND on fire at the same time. By looking for a therapist to help you, you're taking the first step to say this CAN get better. A lot of people find going to a therapist for the first time to be uncomfortable, so I'm impressed you are being good to yourself, being brave, and swallowing back those fears and pushing forward toward healing. I love working with families and individuals to bring both symptom relief and deep change that heals and doesn't just put a band-aid on your issues. I have a passion for teletherapy, received formal training, and can treat Medicaid clients anywhere in Oklahoma.

No one has the perfect childhood, and even if you come from a family that is intact and loving, life presents crises and challenges when you least expect them. It may be the loss of a loved one, difficulty forming or maintaining relationships, frustrations around a job or reaching a life goal. I believe our perceptions and feelings about the past can change, no matter how disturbing, and once we do that, we can find more joy in the present and face the future with a more positive attitude. People can grow and change at any age.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in 73102?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
