I utilize methods of treatment through attachment theory, and hues of dialectical, narrative, and schema based theories.
We all have a story and some chapters tend to be more difficult to remember and understand than others. I assist others in processing through, coping with, & resolving the ways in which our life experiences are impacting our current state of functioning & well-being. Often times, finding our way feels impossible but my approach is to be a guiding light on your healing journey. Landing onto this page is your first step in a brave, yet perhaps scary new beginning. My approach is practical & often direct, however driven with compassion and non-judgement. I often tailor my sessions with a bit of humor if appropriate.

My passion in life is to help you thrive. My approach to marriage, family, and relationships is unique because I am keenly aware of how your view of the world, yourself, and how you view others affects all aspects of your life and your relationships. I'm a compassionate straight shooter who will help you reshape your past and set a firm foundation for the future. I focus less on diagnosing you and more on helping you to connect deeply with others and discover solutions to move forward. My desire is for you not to have to come back.

It can take incredible courage to acknowledge when we are in need of help and support, and making that first appointment can be a profound step towards positive change. Together we can create a space where you feel supported, valued, and seen as we collaboratively work towards goals that feel meaningful to you. I strive to bring an authentic, non-judgmental, and compassionate presence to sessions that empowers clients as the experts on their own lives. I often use cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, exposure and response prevention, and mindfulness-based techniques in my work with clients.

I provide a very straight-forward and direct solution focused approach for addressing barriers of life. I understand that sometimes we all can use a safe space to process situations that come along with being human in a sometimes less than humane world. I provide guidance through instructing the use of various breathing exercises, grounding, stabilization, and relaxation techniques to provide clients with tools for minimizing stress responses.

We all need help sometimes, and it is important that we talk to someone who is able to spend time with us and be able to provide the right and compassionate response. We can talk to friends and family, but at times, the responses we receive might not be what we are expecting: "You are too hard on yourself, or I do not have time for you right now," etc. It is also possible that friends and family have their own lives to juggle, and talking to them about our personal struggles might put a burden on them. Talking to a licensed therapist means that you are setting healthy boundaries and, protecting your privacy.

Not accepting new clients
EXCLUSIVELY TELEHEALTH through at least 12/31/20; not currently accepting new clients. I have helped individuals and couples with problems such as relationship problems, anxiety, depression, other mood disorders, preoccupations with food and weight, substance abuse disorders, gender dysphoria, and recovery from trauma. I prefer to use a narrative approach in my clinical work, though I welcome and encourage client feedback and incorporate tools and ideas from a variety of practice models to help meet clients' needs. Narrative therapy is based on the idea that "the person is never the problem, the problem is the problem."

Narrative Therapists

Is narrative therapy evidence-based?

Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.

How long does narrative therapy last?

Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.

Does narrative therapy work?

Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds—perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.

What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?

Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
