Through my journey working with different populations, I have developed a special interest in psychological and behavioral assessment, while also developing focused clinical skills in trauma, relationship difficulties, and personality dysfunction.
I am a bicultural psychologist who appreciates diversity and uses humanistic principles and beliefs to understand the mind and behavior, focusing on the uniqueness of each individual that is inherently good. I am passionate about helping people find or restore the condition in which they can rediscover their inherent happiness and satisfaction of life, while also leading them to personal growth by addressing their diverse experiences with caregivers or peers that may have led to emotional wounds and maladaptive behaviors.

while doing so with a trauma-informed, anti-oppressive lens.
It took a lot of courage for you to make it to this point. I imagine your journey has had fluctuating ups and downs, and now you’re seeking support to get through life’s challenges. Sometimes it can feel daunting to try and move forward in life when you feel stuck, whether it be due to the cards life has dealt you or even sometimes getting in your own way.

A broken spirit can take longer to heal than a broken bone… let me help you process your trauma and trust again.
Every car ride triggers an emotional reaction since the car accident. What used to be an enjoyable road trip is now a spiral into fight or flight – hands gripping the wheel, heart racing into a near panic. With every lane change or brake light, cars whizzing past remind you that your life is forever different after being injured. Fear of driving or riding as a passenger, called Amaxophobia, has caused you to avoid going places you once loved. Pain now scares you and you just can’t return to normalcy. If this sounds like your struggle, there is hope!

I am a Trauma & Anxiety therapist.
You are feeling overwhelmed, stuck in the past, & uncertain about the future. Maybe you’ve experienced a traumatic event, or you find yourself in cycles, no matter how hard you try to break them. You feel flooded with emotion, triggered by your surroundings, & exhausted from fighting through each day. As much as you try to push away upsetting thoughts & memories, they continue to creep back into your awareness. It seems like worry is following you like a shadow, spilling over into your relationships, your professional life, & even your overall health. This leaves you feeling alone as you put on a happy face for the world around you.

I have dealt with anxiety, depression, trauma, body image issues, and so many other things in my personal life.
If you've been struggling with life and circumstances, you are not alone. I applaud you for seeking out help with your challenges because it means that you are brave (stepping outside of your comfort zone) and that you have made the decision to do something about your mental health (also brave). I work with many survivors of various trauma and I am trained in EMDR. If you need a good listener, somebody who is in your life to support you, somebody who is not afraid to encourage you to take control of your circumstances and mindset, and someone who can provide insight and education about mental health, I would love to meet with you!

My focus areas tend to include: C-PTSD/PTSD; relationship-stress; developmental trauma; life-transitions; and self-acceptance.
When you’re experiencing ongoing stress and exhaustion, your body starts to say “hey, take care of me” in many subtle ways. Oftentimes, we worry taking care of ourselves would be a loss of connection elsewhere. The truth is, repressed trauma, anxiety, depression, and/or other emotions can build tension within your life. In my practice, I help you process your current experiences and find the tools to support your mental health. As a trauma-aware therapist, I am confident to work alongside your journey! We will focus on a healing-perspective and keep your hopes for what you would like to achieve as our goal.

My preferred place to start in our work together is with your strengths and resources, even if you are not aware of them! That said, I am trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Motivational Interviewing, and Trauma Recovery.
If you desire a safe place, where you can be truly authentic, met with empathy and compassion, and at times, the healing power of laughter, I would very much like to work with you. My name is Brad, and I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Michigan for almost 20 years, and am also a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC). I have a passion for helping women and men experience a compassionate, safe place to reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety, grief and loss, alcohol and substance issues: especially if they are related to traumatic experiences.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
