Hello everyone! I opened QueerSpace Counseling because it is my passion to work with the LGBTQ+ community to foster a safe space where clients can share their stories and find practical, easy to use interventions that provide relief. I believe that each of us can take steps for measurable success in our goals and operate from a trauma-informed approach. I work only with adult individuals (I do not offer couple's counseling).

I approach counseling with a trauma-informed perspective and the fundamental belief that we are all whole individuals - each of us unique; equally deserving of love, understanding, and compassion; and capable of making positive changes to achieve well-being, contentment, and meaningful connection. While there are many factors that may interrupt your ability to live life fully, my goal is to help you identify, understand, and resolve your own unique life stressors.

I work with clients highly motivated to grow through trauma, panic, OCD, anxiety, stress, acute and chronic illness, chronic pain, and relationship issues. My therapeutic approach is rooted in a somatic and embodiment lens, recognizing the interconnectedness of body and mind in the healing process. I help people break out of old patterns and bridge the gap between where they are and where they want to be. Through gaining greater self-awareness, healing wounds, and building skills you can overcome blocks to living your most liberated and authentic life.

Have you awakened and are struggling to navigate the 3D world? Do you identify as having an awakened consciousness, an empath, spiritual, a WooWoo or on the Red Road? Are you feeling isolated and disconnected because your vibration has increased and created more challenges in relationships? While on this life's journey, have you realized that you experienced trauma in childhood and don't know how to take the next step to heal these wounds? These experiences could be causing anxiety and depression, deflating your self worth and disrupting your focus and sleep.

I do a lot of work with people who are highly sensitive, people who have experienced past trauma, and family conflict.
Making the choice to come to therapy is an important decision. Apart from the clinical training and skill of your counselor, the most important part of your experience is the therapeutic relationship. Most people who come to counseling need to talk about things that can be hard to talk about with someone else. I understand that, and this is why I put so much importance on building a trusting relationship. In order for you to say everything exactly how you mean it and to express yourself fully, you need to feel genuinely safe and free from judgment.

Imagine finding healing from your past: the hurts from childhood, the mistakes you've made, and the trauma you've endured.
You're an ambitious woman struggling with anxiety, frustration, anger, and/or sadness. Romantic relationships can reopen old wounds where we discover we still need healing. In addition, your relationships with your father, mother, and siblings can also leave you feeling unsettled, anxious, and angry (aka - triggered). You desire healing from your childhood and beyond. You've tried talk therapy in the past with little success. Maybe you've tried multiple therapists. Together, we will get to the root of your issues and help you work towards the healing you desire. I offer 60/90/120 minute sessions. I am certified in EMDR.

Sophia is particularly passionate about assisting individuals dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, attachment styles, and relationship issues.
Sophia, a diligent student at Keiser University, is currently completing her Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Inspired by Carl Rogers' philosophy that “the good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction, not a destination,” She recognizes that life's journey is replete with both challenges and joys. Her approach to therapy is rooted in this understanding, focusing on fostering optimism and a positive mindset even in the face of uncertainty, trauma, anxiety, confusion, and sadness.

Using a contemporary psychodynamically-oriented approach, I work with those struggling with relationship and family issues, parenting difficulties, divorce, trauma, unresolved grief, loss, anxiety and depression, among other issues.
I think as human beings we want to feel seen, heard, appreciated, respected, loved, and valued. I believe most of us want to make a difference in the lives of those around us, our loved ones, friends and community. Making a difference and enjoying healthy and gratifying relationships and contributing to one's community can take many forms but they all involve relationships. If you find yourself feeling deeply unhappy, confused and dissatisfied in any of your relationships, I'd like to learn more about you and what you are seeking in your life and in your relationships.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
