I have been involved with mental health and addiction recovery since 2012. My ideal client is someone who is struggling to make sense of their path and is looking to be pushed while being seen. I wish to know you and develop a greater awareness of what makes you unique. Through this process, you can expect to develop a profound sense of meaning and enjoy richer relationships. My style is warm, inquisitive, humorous, and challenging. I focus on the experience that is created between therapist and client and how that pertains to all relationships. I am attachment based, somatic and body oriented, and trauma informed.

Sometimes it might feel like finding peace, contentment, and a sense of being "okay" is out of reach. The weight of traumas, heartaches, anxieties, and other painful emotions can linger, clouding our thoughts and leaving us feeling stuck. But here's what's important: they contain the key to your own healing.

I help people struggling with navigating a world that feels like it's not built for them. Whether it's working through gender/sexuality issues, trauma, or figuring out how to be in the world without drugs and alcohol, I work with folks to strengthen their own inner wisdom in order to walk through the world whole and confident with a sense of belonging. I aim to create a safe, nonjudgmental space for you to come as you are, discover who you want to be, and figure out what is getting in the way.

Now accepting new clients! Panic attacks are the worst. One moment you feel "fine" & the next you're freaking out! Do you deal with stress, anxiety, & panic? Are you a person who is sensitive to all the dysfunction & pain in the world? Does it feel like sometimes you are full of hope & other times you’re totally hopeless? It can be so confusing & leave you feeling more stress & frustration. Are you coping in unhealthy ways just to get by? Like overeating, overthinking, shopping, drinking to numb out the anxious feelings? Maybe you’re tired of being stuck in this loop. You want to focus on solutions, not just survival.

Waitlist for new clients
All talked out? Many of my clients have decades of experience in therapy, yet have found little relief from their anxiety or depression. I work with adults and couples who are ready to go deeper into the unconscious mind to heal old wounds, change outdated patterns and cultivate a compassionate relationship with themselves. My clients have great insight, and are ready to finally embody and feel what they cognitively know to be true: “I am safe. I am loveable. I am enough.” Deeply knowing yourself is the greatest gift you can give your heart. Learning to regulate your nervous system is a close second.

Every journey has detours. Sometimes we get lost along the way. That experience - of having lost our way - can often be a catalyst for finding our way again, and finding ourselves, more fully and authentically than ever before. We often feel alone, especially when we feel most lost. But we are not alone, and the process of self-discovery can be made more fulfilling and productive with the help of a skilled therapist. It’s my privilege to walk with other travelers on this journey, and to support others as they move toward healing, growth, and restoration in their lives.

During the course of our lives we experience many joys and hardships, and along with them the full range of human emotions. Each moment and feeling is an opportunity to better understand self, other, and the world. Your painful feelings may be signals that old wounds need to be acknowledged or that your truth is not being lived fully. If you are currently struggling to cope with life challenges, feeling unfulfilled or seeking personal growth, the therapeutic relationship can provide an open and nonjudgmental atmosphere to explore the body and mind in a safe, comfortable space.

We humans are wired for contact and connection. Yet sometimes we don't know how to develop the needed connections; relationship building and managing one’s life effectively can thus be both terrifying and exhilarating . Lack of healthy support and resultant traumas leave us depressed, anxious, isolated, or insecure, leading to addictions, obsessions and compulsions, poor communication, relationship difficulties, or general dis-ease in one’s life. Yet healing is possible, and finding a therapist with whom you resonate is crucial.

Lets explore your life experience in a new and exciting way. I see suffering as an opportunity to break free from old patterns, habits, and ways of thinking that are not working for you anymore. It's a call from deep inside saying, "something needs to shift". This shift can come from exploring a relationship to a substance that you are using, and the pain, anxiety, depression, or a general sense of not loving your life that may come with it. Your unique journey is here right now, and experiencing it from a nonjudgmental perspective can be a vital ingredient to moving past whatever is holding you back from living your best life.

Even the most self-aware humans can experience periods of confusion, stuckness, and destabilization, and oftentimes suffering has unconscious roots. I've dedicated my training and education as a helping professional to learn how to unlock messages from the unconscious to promote healing and well-being. I also strive to arm my clients with concrete tools to use independently, long after our work together is completed. I have many years of experience helping people heal, blending a variety of nontraditional and expressive therapeutic approaches with evidence-based interventions to meet the individual needs of the people I serve.

The loops we live in are the glass ceiling of our life: loops are the patterns, embodied and enacted, that characterize our life. Loops are an inevitable and necessary component of human experience. However, when loops are not working for us, we become limited by them, keeping us feeling stuck, trapped, disempowered, and confused. Owning our loops allows us to own our life. Common loops include: trauma, addiction, relationship dynamics, mood, beliefs, and identity. Push beyond your limiting loops to discover who you are and what your life can be.

Life sometimes presents challenges that can overwhelm and disconnect us from ourselves and leave us feeling lost and alone. Whether we are adults or children, we can develop patterns that do not serve us well, as we struggle to cope. I help clients (individuals and couples) examine rather than run from their anxiety, depression, or uncomfortable feelings arising from change, whether at work, in school or at home. I believe that we all have strengths and the potential for well-being. Together we will reduce conflict and stress in your life, improve performance and seek better health.

As a psychologist, with almost 30 years of experience, I approach the therapy relationship with a blend of modern science, ancient wisdom (Secular, Yogic and Buddhist philosophies), common sense, humor and integrity. Increasing awareness through mindful intention and observation of the mind-body, describes my approach to psychotherapy. The therapeutic relationship is collaborative and aimed at identifying your obstacles to healing. The co-creation of a clear pathway between the heart, mind and emotions is the therapeutic work.Your "best self" will be challenged, nurtured and supported in the process.

I work with clients in a relaxed, informal, and professional way to promote emotional safety and comfort within the relationship so that they can process openly and authentically about meaningful and often sensitive topics. While experiencing this connection, people are able to gain presence, reflect on experiences and plan for personal maintenance, change and growth. Many clients enjoy both spending time in the office, taking walks, spending time in nature, and/or meeting virtually for telehealth sessions. I like to utilize physical activity, mindfulness, and ecotherapy for engagement and emphasizing overall health and wellness.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
