Change is not easy. Whether you're needing to experience relief from anxiety, depression, past trauma, or a current difficult situation, counseling can help bring us out of stagnation and onto the path of change in a compassionate and non-judgmental atmosphere. I enjoy helping people identify what thoughts and behaviors are helpful in building satisfying lives and which may have once proved useful, but no longer work for them. Taking small steps, while being kind to ourselves when we make mistakes, can create the kind of change that we want to see in our lives.

My goal is to help people lead happier more content lives. Counseling is just like life in that you get out of it what you put into it. Counseling requires courage. In going through the difficult parts though, you will come out stronger and more capable of living the life you desire. I can’t “fix” you (you’re not broken even if it feels that way). What I’ll do is work along with you to get through those tough things that are going on inside or around you.

When facing challenging times, therapy can provide a safe place to talk about those challenges. I am happy to announce the addition of the newest staff member, Kenny, a certified therapy dog whose presence helps create a safe space. My goal is to help clients achieve their own "zen" state by learning how to recognize, access, & trust their own intuition. I view therapy as part of one's wellness journey. And one of the most important challenges in this journey is to understand one's personal power & how to manage it. Therapy is a challenging process, but I will be your advocate & help you learn to become your own advocate.

Accepting NEW Clients! I have been a social worker for more than 30 years. I feel honored to do this work. It has been my experience that everyone wants and needs to feel loved. We want love from our parents, love from our partners and love from our friends. When we believe that we don't have love we look to find substitutes.(ie. money, substances, food, material things) Nothing we try to "do" makes us feel fulfilled. They last for a short time and then the feeling of unrest comes again. It is an endless cycle of looking and not finding the love we desire. You have always been loved and worthy.

Hello and welcome! In my practice, I provide a supportive space for individuals from adolescence through adulthood. Life often hands us stress that over time, or rather abruptly, can disrupt our sense of calm. We can get stuck, lose track of who we are and what is important to us. By working together, we can explore individual needs, strengthen awareness, challenge obstacles, and build skills to promote wellbeing.

Do people say how great your life is and how great you are, but as you smile and nod you know that deep down you’re consumed with anxiety, fear of failure, imposter syndrome, or self-doubt? Are your nights plagued obsessing about the next day, recounting all the “silly” things you said or did, or reliving all your regrets? Does the possibility of making mistakes scare the hell out of you and keep you stuck? And, have you ever felt confident when you’re alone and believe you can conquer the world, but once you’re around other people, your adult self suddenly becomes an awkward teenager?

I completely agree with Steven Aitchison's quote that emotional pain is not something that should be hidden away and never spoken about. There is truth in your pain there is growth in your pain, but only if it's first brought out into the open. The first step is recognizing that there is a concern and asking for assistance. Whether you are an adult survivor of childhood sexual trauma or your child has disclosed sexual trauma, you can find healing. Maybe you are a parent who needs a safe place to discuss your experiences with pregnancy, loss, medical emergencies, etc. Or you and your partner need to process ongoing difficulties.

There can be times in our life where we feel stuck, or in a pit without a way out. This may be life's normal rhythm or could be unresolved trauma, anxiety, depression, substance abuse, addictions, relationship conflict, or grief / loss. It's possible you do not even know why you feel stuck. Maybe you tried to climb out on your own, only to slip back deeper than before. In my 25 year career as a police officer, I have been where many of you are. I have now dedicated my life to helping individuals find the strength and resiliency to move towards healing. I can help you find your path forward as well.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.
Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
