Overwhelmed? Panicked? Frustrated? Trying to hold it all together? What if freedom from pain was possible, and readily available? What if you could navigate the intensity with authentic confidence, empowerment, and inner peace? My role is to be a compassionate, nonjudgmental presence for you to imagine and create the missing ingredients to your well-being. If you are motivated to try new approaches to life challenges and seeking someone to "coach" you along, working together could be a good fit.

Openness, resilience and courage are possible at all stages of life. Intuitively, we know that there is a place of stillness and strength at the center. Therapy is a mind, body, and philosophical/spiritual journey to the authentic self. It is an adventure that requires effort and brings indestructible peace.

I am passionate about supporting children and adults to heal from past hurt, whether it be from an event they might name as "trauma" or from a series of challenges. I work to support the whole person- mind, body, and spirit- and I integrate different techniques (including expressive therapy). I also invite individuals to bring spiritual parts of themselves to the work, e.g., their passions, beliefs, values and meaning-making systems. I work from a self-as-instrument model and also am interested in supporting providers and caregivers so they can be their best for the people they support.

When children experience challenges learning, paying attention, interacting socially, or struggling emotionally, parents often need support to better understand these challenges. Neuropsychological testing provides information about how a child is growing, identifying areas of strength and possible challenge so that parents are in a better position to support their child's development. I work collaboratively with parents to tailor an assessment to understand the nuances and unique context of each child's experience. From the assessment, recommendations are offered to develop a specific plan to address the child's particular needs.

I have been in the mental health field for over 30 years practicing in a variety of settings. My current interests have evolved after years of working with adolescent females and adult women, followed by years of working with troubled families where I became aware of the prevalence of and impact from various kinds of trauma. Depression, anxiety, grief and loss, relational issues and living with and healing from trauma are areas of my expertise.

The desire for a healthy relationship with oneself and others and having satisfying work or other pursuits of happiness are part of the human condition. Despite the "want" for this, achieving successful outcomes can be elusive. I am eager to work with you in helping to understand the problematic patterns of thinking, feeling, and doing that can keep you from getting what you desire. I practice a psychoanalytic approach and provide a therapeutic presence to explore your unique experience of being you. Together we can work toward a deeper knowledge of yourself which will lead to more emotional freedom and better choices for life satisfaction.

I am deeply curious about human relationships; the conditions that make them mutually satisfying and joyful as well as how they can go wrong leaving people feeling in pain, lonely or unworthy. My practice consists of couples and adults whose relationships with themselves and/or others are in disrepair. We all have many relationships. Yet, the more personal and intimate they are, the more distressing and challenging they can be at one time or another. I encourage individuals and couples looking to discover greater relational joy and willing to look both inward and outward for more satisfying life solutions to contact me.

I enjoy helping people work on achieving a balance between self acceptance and striving to incorporate positive changes into their lives. I "meet people where they are at" and encourage self exploration with gentle guidance. I often work with adults who identify as 'highly sensitive' or possess introverted qualities. I work with individuals who want to learn how to slow down and enjoy life while also finding a way to thrive in our fast paced, extroverted society. I often work with individuals with anxiety, depression, and relationship struggles.

As inherently social beings, I believe that we learn to love and accept ourselves, gain self awareness, and form a strong self-concept through our connections with others. As such, I consider the psychotherapeutic relationship and process to be of vital importance in working through any barrier that holds us back from enjoying a meaningful and fulfilling life. True healing happens in connection with others through trust, vulnerability and being seen and accepted for who we are at our core. It’s not about changing who we are but about learning how to use our inherent strengths to care for ourselves and reach our full potential.

Many of us experience stress and anxiety on a daily basis. While sometimes we feel in control of these emotions, other times it can feel like they are controlling us. Whether you are dealing with day-to-day stressors, or those brought on by major life transitions, learning how to identify and manage the feelings you experience can be vital to having happy, healthy relationships with others and with yourself.

Many clients come to me with suffering around patterns of anxiety, depression, and addiction, as well as dissatisfaction in their interpersonal relationships and work life. Many clients have never 'been heard' before. Many clients have lost touch with themselves, and doubt their own capacity to be well, and to thrive in their lives. Some clients come with severe trauma, and have difficulty being 'in' their own bodies. Some clients say 'I don't do emotions,' and yet are suffering from the results of suppression.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
