Hello, I'm Rachael. I provide a safe, secure place, where you will be able to talk about your thoughts and feelings in confidence, without the fear of being judged. I know the thought of having counselling can be daunting, but I will help you to feel comfortable and relaxed. All my clients and their issues are extremely important to me, so there is no such thing as a client or an issue being ‘unimportant,’ or a problem being too ‘minor’. The sessions are all about you...

I'm lucky to work with a diverse client base across gender and age, from busy professionals to university students, parents navigating divorce or separation and individuals and couples seeking support with relationships.
My name is Pippa. I'm a compassionate integrative therapist, working with adults aged 18+. You may have a specific issue you want to work through in therapy such as persistent anxiety, relationship challenges, low self esteem or navigating a life change such as divorce. Or perhaps you have a persistent sense of something being wrong and feel that talking to a friendly, compassionate therapist may help. Whatever your reason, reaching out is the first step to changing patterns of behaviour that may be holding you back, with knowledge and tools to gain a sense of purpose, self compassion and start to feel more in control of your life.

If you are feeling lost, overwhelmed and unsupported coming to talk with me could be really helpful. Many feel their difference leads to isolation and even external aggression, causing them to withdraw even further. Speaking with a counsellor/psychotherapist such as myself can offer perspective and provide clarity at a time when things seem confused and chaotic.

Integrative counselling is about—offering bespoke sessions and applying a range of therapy modalities best suited to my client. This can be online or face-to-face in a safe space. As well as online video apps, I work face to face with adults, young people (11+) and couples. Sometimes friends or family are unable to support you so an impartial professional can really help. Powerlessness, change, loneliness, grief and anxiety are just a few of the overwhelming feelings many are experiencing. There is no need to be alone in this. Call for a chat to see if, together, we can find a way forward.

I first discovered counselling when I was referred to one many years ago. The experience for me was life changing. It was one of my first relationships that valued my choices and it and me gave me the tools, knowledge and courage to make changes in my life. I believe no one will know the truth about themselves until you find it by yourself. In doing so will give you greater value and empower you to make your own choices.

I provide a range of evidence based psychotherapies to alleviate psychological distress in Devon, my main approach being Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP). Intensive Short term Dynamic Psychotherapy is a highly effective form of psychodynamic psychotherapy designed to help you get to the heart of the matter quickly, and resolve issues fast. The approach is emotion focussed; a relational therapy that can address a wide range of ongoing problems or symptoms. ISTDP is particularly useful in attending to internal conflicts that can arise from interpersonal relationships.

We can all feel overwhelmed at times: it might be the breakdown of a relationship, loss of a friendship, daily struggles or those horrible feelings of anxiety that just won’t go away. We might be feeling unhappy but we’re not sure why, we might feel life isn’t going the way we want it to whilst everyone else seems to be doing ok. Talking openly and feeling truly heard can be life changing: we can say all those things that keep going round in our heads, the issues that keep coming back time and again, and work towards understanding what’s going on, make changes and find some peace. Isn't that what we all want and deserve?

Divorce Counsellors

How does therapy for people affected by a divorce work?

Individuals may feel a number of emotions following a divorce, such as shock, guilt, grief, anger, and fear. Therapists offer a non-judgmental space for individuals to talk about what they’ve experienced and process their emotions. Therapists will help clients develop coping strategies. They can also help a client rebuild their sense of self and self-worth and talk about what a happier future might look like.

What’s the most common type of therapy following a divorce?

There are several types of therapy that may be useful for divorce, including cognitive behavioural, acceptance and commitment, solution-focused brief, and mindfulness-based therapies. Many therapy types are talk-therapy based, which is typically the most popular option for individuals dealing with divorce. Cognitive behavioural therapy is a widely-used talk therapy, however, there’s no specific therapy type that’s designed to help people with divorce, and different types will work depending on the person.

When should an individual seek help due to a divorce?

When the feelings of a divorced individual, or an individual going through the process of divorce, begin to disrupt healthy daily functioning, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not performing at work due to problems with anxiety or motivation, if they’re no longer seeing friends due to feelings of shame, or if they’re not properly taking care of themselves as a result of depression, speaking to a professional could help.

How do you encourage someone to go to therapy due to a divorce?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the individual while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Sharing how the individual appears to be suffering, and what effects it has on them or on their children, should be done with compassion and empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
