I have worked with many different people - with different needs - from people recovering from addiction(s), people living with feelings of depression and anxiety, neurodivergent folks, to those coping with bereavement and people dealing with abuse, violence and trauma. I'm especially passionate about working with people with traumatic life experiences and those from the LGBTQI+ community. I am a cisgender bisexual and queer woman and I use she/her pronouns. I work with an open-mindset and am poly/kink/bsdm aware. I work in a gender affirming way. I pride myself on being warm, friendly and down-to-earth.

My name is Kerry and I believe that every human is unique and deserves to be treated with respect and kindness. In my practice I utilise the abundance of natural environment we have locally and provide bespoke therapy packages to suit you as an individual. I specialise in working with trauma, something we have all experienced to some degree. I have gained a wealth of experience and knowledge of life, by spending 19 years in the Military, followed by running my own personal training business for 11 years. My experiences in the military have given me an insight into the effects of Trauma, PTSD, the adaptions we make to survive.

There are so many reasons why you might be looking for a counsellor/therapist; anxiety, sadness, relationships, abuse, trauma, low self-esteem, bereavement and loss etc or just wanting to understand yourself. As a counsellor I offer a neutral compassionate non-judgemental place where you will be safe to speak, think, explore, be listened to and heard in order to help you make sense of what's going on and enable you to learn the tools to help you make the changes you want and need. In our first appointment I will listen to what you bring and we can then decide together how to move forward together.

Reaching out for therapy can feel difficult, especially when you have been carrying things quietly for a long time or are unsure where to begin. Many people come when they feel overwhelmed, anxious, emotionally stuck, affected by relationships, loss, low confidence or ongoing stress, and simply want a safe space to think clearly, feel understood and make sense of what they are experiencing

If you’re exhausted by shallow self-help, fake positivity, and constant pressure to be more productive, you’re not alone. Another podcast. Another morning routine. Another person online claiming they’ve mastered life while quietly falling apart behind the scenes. Meanwhile, you may still feel anxious, disconnected, stuck, lonely, overwhelmed, or unlike yourself underneath it all. I’m not especially interested in pretending life is simple or reducing people to diagnoses, labels, or productivity problems to solve.

I often see these signs in my clients that fuel (even more) anxiety and a loud inner critic: people-pleasing, repeating patterns and a pervasive feeling of being stuck, lost or misunderstood. Perhaps you're struggling with a challenging relationship or the aftermath of leaving a partner. Or you feel a constant sense of anxiety, whether it's about work, friendships, family or a feeling of existential worry, There's usually a common thread with all my clients: disconnection. That could be in terms of social isolation, relationships, your emotions... or it could be self abandonment, when you've lost a sense of who you truly are.

You might be concerned about your child for a number of reasons; The stress of life, Depression Anxiety Trauma or behavoural issues are all signs that something needs attention. I try to help parents understand their children and to respond in ways that might be more effective. I offer children space to express and communicate from their own point of view. I have many years experience of working in the NHS -Child mental health- and want to reach those who are not offered a service or where the wait is very long.

Divorce Counsellors
How does therapy for people affected by a divorce work?
Individuals may feel a number of emotions following a divorce, such as shock, guilt, grief, anger, and fear. Therapists offer a non-judgmental space for individuals to talk about what they’ve experienced and process their emotions. Therapists will help clients develop coping strategies. They can also help a client rebuild their sense of self and self-worth and talk about what a happier future might look like.

What’s the most common type of therapy following a divorce?
There are several types of therapy that may be useful for divorce, including cognitive behavioural, acceptance and commitment, solution-focused brief, and mindfulness-based therapies. Many therapy types are talk-therapy based, which is typically the most popular option for individuals dealing with divorce. Cognitive behavioural therapy is a widely-used talk therapy, however, there’s no specific therapy type that’s designed to help people with divorce, and different types will work depending on the person.

When should an individual seek help due to a divorce?
When the feelings of a divorced individual, or an individual going through the process of divorce, begin to disrupt healthy daily functioning, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not performing at work due to problems with anxiety or motivation, if they’re no longer seeing friends due to feelings of shame, or if they’re not properly taking care of themselves as a result of depression, speaking to a professional could help.

How do you encourage someone to go to therapy due to a divorce?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the individual while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Sharing how the individual appears to be suffering, and what effects it has on them or on their children, should be done with compassion and empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
