Life can be challenging and stressful at times. Therapy can be a place to sort out distressing emotions, thoughts, and situations that are interfering with the quality of your life. I am passionate about working with people to support them in making changes, setting goals for themselves and achieving them, and becoming unstuck from thoughts and behaviors that no longer serve them.

My role is to provide tangible support like teaching skills, sharing tools, setting goals, and giving encouragement to help you get where you want to be (or in therapy jargon: providing individualized support based on a custom treatment plan, with collaboratively established goals using a person-centered, strength-based, and solution-focused approach).
You want to make a change. Despite your best efforts to make changes on your own, things stay the same. If you are looking for support dealing with life transitions, mental health concerns, or navigating relationships, and you want to explore how to process, change your perceptions, cope effectively, and thrive, I'd be happy to help.

A tree house has always meant a place to go; to think, talk, and work through everyday life trials and tribulations. It was a safe place to find peace and comfort. Let TreeHouse Therapy be that safe space for you to work through life’s challenges. As a Registered Counselling Therapist-Candidate, I am licensed to provide counselling services throughout Nova Scotia. I provide face-to-face counselling with children, parent(s)/caregiver(s) with child, adults, and couples. Therapy via Zoom and phone is also an option for adults and couples.

Hello and Welcome! My name is Tiffany. I believe in a whole-person approach to therapy, focusing on individual experience through a trauma-informed lens. I will offer guidance and support as you navigate your life story, showing up authentically with integrity, empathy, honesty, and gentleness. I trust in the bodies capacity to heal and achieve a state of balance and 'wellness', and that interconnection and community are an integral part of this healing.

I am passionate about supporting individuals to live their lives as fully as possible. We often focus our energy on our 'to do' lists and our responsibilities to others - putting our own needs on the back burner. Counselling allows individuals to identify their challenges and strengths, and replenish their energy, enjoyment and well-being. Individual contexts and issues will be varied - in fact, that is part of what I love about this work.

My ideal client is someone who is wanting to feel heard and understood. Each client has their own array of unique experiences and it is therefore the ultimate goal to better understand the self and interactions with others and the world around them. Once this is achieved we can together facilitate change through new perspectives.

How does strength-based therapy work?

During strength-based therapy sessions, the therapist will ask about an individual’s experiences of stress, pain, or trauma with the goal of orienting the client to view themselves as a survivor rather than a victim, and focusing on their strengths rather than on their weaknesses. In framing a client’s personal narrative along these lines, the therapist and client work together to identify existing skills that can be harnessed.

Is strength-based therapy evidence-based?

Strength-based therapy is an evidence-based treatment that has been studied extensively and shown to be effective across domains. The treatment has been found to be particularly effective in helping individuals who are experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, and other mental health concerns. Strength-based therapy has been used by therapists to help clients for more than 60 years.

How long does strength-based therapy last?

There’s no precise timeline for strength-based therapy. The duration of treatment depends on the individual’s specific needs and goals and the severity of their concerns. Some individuals may find they achieve their therapeutic goals quickly, while others might benefit from ongoing support and guidance in order to continue progressing.

How effective is strength-based therapy?

Clinical research and decades of practice have shown strength-based therapy to be an effective treatment to improve mental health and well-being for many conditions. The treatment can engender a sense of connection and collaboration between the therapist and the individual, fostering a positive therapeutic relationship. For individuals with narcissistic tendencies, strength-based therapy may be less effective, as the focus on the individual’s strengths may undermine the work needed to honestly assess the challenges the individual faces.
