My approach is integrative, pulling from Internal Family Systems, Gestalt, EFT, mindfulness, somatic therapy, and relational therapy.
So, you’re here because you want change. Maybe you are desperate for relief, but how can therapy help? Therapy is a process of reconnection. Connecting to yourself, your heart, and to others. When space is held for all parts of you to express themselves and be heard, things that were stuck can begin to move. It’s simple, but it’s not easy- fear and shame can make it so hard to be okay with ourselves and our lives. But you don’t have to do this alone.

At times, life can feel so overwhelming that we just wish for a way out of the chaos into stillness and peace. This chaos might manifest in stress, anxiety, depression, or relationship issues, or it may show up as traumatic and painful experiences preventing you from achieving your desires and goals. It is absolutely possible to find your way to happiness and inner peace and it’s helpful to have a trained professional with lived experience guide and support you through that journey.

I believe that people are much more understandable when you know their life journey. I believe in the power of human connection and the healing that this connection alone can bring about in therapy. My clients know that I am there rooting for them as they navigate difficult chapters: past, present, and future. This is why I am always honoured and excited to hear someone’s story. Looking at the different layers of your story will help us track where certain patterns and cycles have started. Together, we will work through the parts that need healing. We will move forward with this information to make positive changes in your life.

I believe that every person and every relationship is sacred. As a psychotherapist with a background in spiritual care, I aspire to help individuals see the sacred light within themselves. I do not listen to my clients to “fix,” to respond, or to debate with them; rather, I listen to provide presence, connection, and support on their respective journeys.

Somatic Counsellors

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
