I use a person-centered framework while drawing from acceptance and commitment therapy, emotionally focused therapy, and attachment-based approaches.
Hi! I'm Christopher, an intern psychologist at Strathearn Psychology. I work with teens, adults, couples and families dealing with a variety of concerns. I value flexibility, accountability and fun. I strive to meet you - wherever you are in life's journey, whether you wish to dive deep and wade through the darkness or if you just want a tune up and need some tools. Additionally, I aim to hold you accountable to your goals, hopes, and dreams in our work together. Lastly, I believe the journey is about progress over perfection, which can be a lot more fun when we are able to exhale and share a few laughs along the way.

I work from a client-centered approach through an attachment-based lens.
I am a Registered Psychologist and have been supporting clients for over 12 years in their pursuits of living more healthy and fulfilling lives. I predominately work with clients that have experienced trauma, in addition to other concerns such as anxiety, depression, grief, relationship issues, and stress. I believe that trauma involves feeling or experiencing a profound lack of safety. For that reason, I strive to create a warm, compassionate, and trusting space that allows for all of life's challenges to be addressed in a way that feels as safe as possible.

I am a registered provisional psychologist in Alberta. As a therapist who uses an attachment-based lens, I believe hurt is often rooted in old wounds caused through relationships across the lifespan. As such, I also believe healing happens through relationships and we will work together to meet your goals and help you move forward on a path of healing. I take a humanistic and strengths-based approach in which I believe you have inherent value simply by being human. All individuals regardless of where they are at in their journeys or what struggles they experience have strengths that can be built on to move towards an authentic life.

I use a holistic and attachment-based approach to help individuals, partners, and families identify and shift out of negative patterns and beliefs so they can start to build stronger relationships with themselves and one another.
You struggle to feel like you're good enough. No matter how hard you try it feels like you don't measure up and you're always falling short. It's hard to find a space where you can truly belong and be yourself. Sometimes you feel overwhelmed by your life and relationships. Other times you feel completely hopeless. You are ready to let go of the belief that you were never good enough and begin to feel comfortable being yourself. Therapy can be a space where you can show up just as you are and learn to love yourself. It's your time to take off the masks, let go of the pressure, and begin to connect with your true self.

I have specialized training in Maternal Mental Health, EMDR for trauma, CBT for anxiety and mood changes, grief counselling and developmental and attachment-based models for parenting and relationship issues.
I specialize in Women's Mental Health and love working with moms. Stress and anxiety are at an all time high and moms are telling me they're exhausted and overwhelmed with the mental load. They're navigating fertility challenges and losses, pregnancy, the birth of children, post-partum and parenting with few supports and often have kids who are struggling too. They're coping with a multitude of losses and are dealing with past or present traumas which impact all relationship dynamics but particularly those with their partner and kids. Reach out if you can relate and we'll work together to help make life more manageable right now.

I ensure treatment is trauma-informed and use evidence-based treatment modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Gorman Method Couples Therapy and attachment-based principles.
You are the expert in your own life and I believe that a positive and supportive therapeutic relationship can help create the change you are looking for. When working with you, I bring my authentic and fully-engaged self to help you feel heard, valued, and respected. It is an immense privilege to enter the stories of other people’s lives and I feel deeply honored to do so. It is important for me to tailor treatment and interventions specific to each of your unique and individual needs, and so wholehearted listening and understanding to each unique story, experience, and situation is vital.

Attachment-based Counsellors

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
