I am honoured to support people in finding their path to healing. I believe that we have our own capacity to move through difficult times and know that taking this step can be pretty tricky. My approach is gentle and fairly eclectic, I tend to use the modality that best suits the clients needs with an attachment based lens. I tend to focus on play therapy and emotion focused therapies with children as well as utilize some dyad work. With adults I tend to use EMDR, trauma processing, solution focused therapy, person centred and emotion focussed therapy modalities. I offer a free 15 minute consultation to ensure I am the right fit.

My goal is to help you maximize your fullest potential on and off the playing field, as well as provide helpful strategies to help you achieve your goals. Many obstacles can present themselves in our daily lives that can be overwhelming, confusing, or uncomfortable. This can leave us feeling disconnected from our experiences, goals, and ultimately our lives. By removing barriers that may prevent you from performing optimally, you make space for a bigger opportunity to grow, learn, and develop more self-awareness and to get a closer, deeper look at what you are capable of.

I am a therapist specializing in treating individuals who have experienced complex trauma resulting from toxic relationships, dysfunctional family systems, and adverse social environments. When we experience complex trauma, it can leave lasting effects on our lives that can be difficult to navigate on our own. It can impact the way we perceive ourselves, our relationships with others, and even our ability to regulate our emotions. This can result in patterns of behaviour that may feel out of our control. However, through therapy, we can begin to unpack these patterns and gain a better understanding of how they developed.

Many of us have experienced adversity in our lives, including myself. Whether it is trauma, chronic pain/illness, racial discrimination or struggles, grief and loss, or depression/anxiety, these experiences often leave us feeling mentally, physically, and emotionally drained. My experiences have taught me that each person experiences adversity differently, and therefore, requires a unique approach for their unique experiential reality. Moreover, I believe that every person has the desire, capacity, and ability to heal and experience growth.

I love working with trauma and have specialized experience with first responders. I get how it changes the way you think, feel and act so can work with emotional dysregulation and behavioural issues too. Addiction is common, and so often a way to cope, and it's the underlying issues I love to nurture and heal. At times, I work with people struggling in relationships, sometimes with themselves, or as they adjust to relationship change or loss. Other times I support people as they life navigate transitions, such as employment changes, navigating pregnancy and parenthood, or coming to terms with health issues, and/or effects of aging.

Suffering, hardship, challenges are all a part of life. This is what makes us human! But we were never meant to struggle alone. Therapy can provide a safe space and the kind of support and connection we can all benefit from. You may be looking to address and process past wounds that are still impacting you today. Or you may be looking for a place to deal with the messiness of life and learn to thrive rather than just survive. Or maybe you're hoping to grow and evolve by gaining skills your future self will thank you for. Either way, I will meet you where you're at and work with you towards healing.

I believe people experience psychological/emotional suffering because they are not able to relate deeply enough to certain aspects of themselves. This disconnection causes "symptoms" and pain. Depression and anxiety are the most common, but they can further develop into problems with identity, addictions, anger, suicidal feelings, despair, problems in relationships, personality disorders etc. To relieve suffering and to further ones personal development, a deeper connection with self is needed. The clients I usually work with are people who feel thwarted in their attempts to be happy, have satisfying relationships, achieve success.

I work with adults who are struggling with stress, anxiety, depression, addictions, and low self confidence. I have particular specialties in working with clients who have visible differences such as physical handicaps, those who 'look different' and/or those who 'feel different'. Whether providing therapy, or performing psychological assessments, my goal is to ensure that each client feels heard, that each client is given the skills they need to feel better in-the moment, and to maintain their sense of well-being and confidence into the future.

As a registered professional counsellor, I try to help one feel a sense of safety and comfort, where one can explore feelings and beliefs in order to come to a clearer understanding of themselves and what they are struggling with. I believe everyone has their own solutions to their problems and sometimes just need a little help figuring that out.

Attachment-based Counsellors
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.
What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.
How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.
Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
