Some of the best stories ever written include success, belonging, safety, and happiness, AND include moments of failure, loneliness, fear, and sadness. We relate to the characters in these stories because we see ourselves in them. My goal as your therapist is to help you write your own story of resilience, accomplishment, and contentment. My approach includes a combination of many evidence-based modalities in order to best assist you in reaching your goals, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Exposure Response Prevention, Mindfulness, Systems Theory, and Strengths-Based Therapy.

Imagine a life with more hope and more optimism; one in which you finally notice yourself making progress towards the goals you’ve struggled to accomplish because “it’s not realistic” or “there’s not enough time”. Imagine a life with less worry and more energy. Imagine finding success in achieving your ideal health and wellness goals or maybe improving the quality of your relationships with others.

Reaching out to a new therapist is a great first step. How will you know you have found the right person for you? I know how important the right fit is. I know you want to find a therapist who "gets you" and "understands your struggles." I have been where you are now. Counseling has helped me as well as so many people that I know and love. I wanted to find a way to help others who are experiencing difficult times in their lives. You can get help. It will get better. Together we can find ways to improve how you are feeling.

I work well with individuals, adolescents, couples, and families who are experiencing difficult circumstances, relationships, or life issues. There are times when all it takes is someone to listen, and there are other times when life is messy and disjointed and direction is lost. I am able to partner with clients through the most traumatic of events and give unique perspective.

I am always marveled by the resilience individuals exhibit in the midst of chaos. However, we tend to forget our strengths as we face hardships. Working in Crisis management, I am marveled at the resilience I have witnessed in those who have experienced trauma. Therefore I want to journey with individuals and help them to identify their hidden strengths and empower individuals so they can function to their fullest potential in society and be their authentic selves.

Self Esteem Therapists

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
