Are you are experiencing depression, anxiety, drug and alcohol addiction, marital and/or family conflict, grief and loss, trauma, PTSD, self-esteem issues or other mental health concerns? I will help you explore and achieve a deeper understanding of your current situation(s) to better cope and deal with them in a healthy way along with helping you gain a greater self-awareness and the strategies needed to foster and maintain these healthy changes. These strategies involve cognitive and mindfulness learning skills, in part, to change negative thinking and develop skills for living in the here and now.

Do you feel like you’re constantly on alert, that you just can’t make things work anymore? It may seem like there’s no one who gets it. Perhaps you grew up having to be “in charge” because your parents weren’t or couldn’t be. Perhaps you’ve had your worldview shattered—by family, by religion, or by extraordinary/anomalous experiences you don’t talk about for fear of being laughed at or even called crazy. It can be exhausting. And it can be scary to reach out to a therapist because you want to make sure you won’t be judged, that they’ll understand, and most of all that they’ll be able to help.

My intention is to be a neutral third party with whom a client can express themselves free of judgment, reflect on their own thoughts and experiences, and find their own direction. I strive to understand the person before me from their own perspective based on their unique values, cultural beliefs, and daily stresses and concerns. I believe someone’s difficulties are not always due to abnormal psychopathology but can arise as a normal reaction to an abnormal situation.

I am currently taking clients 16+ and I offer sliding scale. I have openings M-Th Weekly, Friday biweekly, and One Saturday a month. Making changes can be overwhelming and daunting. Sometimes, it can be hard to know where to even start. However, with support I believe that everyone is capable of taking the steps towards healing and growth that are right for them.

I enjoy working with clients who want to explore their life experiences. Stepping into therapy is an acknowledgement that something isn't adding up to what you want it to be, and my passion is helping you on your journey to become who you want to be. I work with individuals aged 10 and up on issues such as depression, anxiety, neurodiversity, ADHD, autism, relationship struggles, family conflict, school struggles, existential issues, or adjustment problems. Ultimately, whatever your goal is in therapy is my goal as well. There is nothing more fulfilling to me than seeing you meet your goals and growing towards who you want to be.

I provide counseling services to all communities and specialize in non-monogamous relationships, individuals who have participated in the erotic trade industry and the kink and queer communities. My goal is to combat stigmas impacting marginalized communities by creating access to mental health resources. These stigmas create barriers to treatment, contribute to a lack of culturally competent therapeutic resources, infringe upon a person's bodily autonomy and contribute to discriminatory incidents.

Therapy is where you come to reflect on life decisions and experiences and I am here for you through those moments. I would describe a session as being insightful and meaningful even if it is in subtle ways. We may spend some time talking about your daily life, or big things; some days it may feel like a big breakthrough happened and others, a casual conversation. All the things brought up are important to allow you and I to build a therapeutic relationship and to feel comfortable. Everything that you talk about contributes to your growth, even if it is not tangible yet.

I am Currently FULL 5/1/2024 -. One of the most important parts of therapy is forming a trusting and compassionate therapeutic relationship. From that, my approach is person-centered. Focusing on an understanding of your feelings, beliefs, thoughts, behaviors, experiences and goals. Providing a safe space for you to explore, process, grow, challenge yourself and make the changes you want. I will walk along side you, providing support, skill building and at times asking the challenging questions that often are left unsaid, make us uncomfortable, and that in the end, help us most to grow into who we want to be.

Preferred contact method is email, please check your junk for my reply! I feel so fortunate to have found a career that I love, and cherish! My practice came about in the form of an epiphany one day, as I sat on the AIDS unit in NYC as a volunteer. As I listened to a man share his story, I realized that he had not been celebrated for his many talents, but had been ostracized for having AIDS. I decided that my philosophy was going to be-"our differences are what make us beautiful, we should all be celebrated for our uniqueness." This is the philosophy I live by daily.

Self-Harming Therapists

How does therapy for self-harm work?

A person may turn to self-injury so that they can distract themselves from their stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances. Therapy can address the cause of an individual’s suffering. A therapist can help a person understand why they may want to self-harm and help the person learn new methods of coping. A person may have poor emotion regulation, and treatment such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is helpful for breaking this behaviour. In addition, treatment such as dialectical behavior therapy can help a person manage their tolerance of distress.

Which therapies are best for self-harm?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, and mentalisation-based therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are common approaches for people who have painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual cope with distress, regulate emotions, and manage impulsive urges.

Does the tendency to self-harm mean the person is suicidal?

Having this urge does not mean the individual suffers from suicidal ideation. People who want to self-injure look to distract or alleviate themselves from the pain they are experiencing. People with suicidal tendencies want to end life altogether. However, this does not mean a person with the intent to self-harm will not attempt suicide.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for self-harm?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Clients may see improvement within 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, maybe, a six-month period. People, especially those with co-occurring conditions like depression and anxiety, may need to continue therapy for up to 12 to 18 months.
