In our journeys through life we experience both pleasurable and distressing events. When these events reach a level of trauma and are not processed or effectively integrated, individuals may rely on less adaptive strategies to manage discomfort, stress and change. These strategies can negatively influence the way we perceive and interact with the world and affect our intuitive nature and our intentionality for seeking meaning and experiencing joy. My practice is informed by a deeply attuned and heartfelt approach to my client’s emotional wellbeing. I enjoy working with children, adolescents, individuals, couples and families.

We all have our own life story. We all go through events in our lives that make holes in our hearts. Sometimes those holes heal over time, and sometimes those holes needs some extra time and attention in order to mend. I believe YOU are the experts of your own life; therefore my goal in therapy is to build a supportive relationship with you based on care, trust, empathy and genuineness when you are sharing about these sensitive struggles.

Asking for help can be one of the hardest decisions/actions an individual takes when they are struggling with actively using alcohol and/or substances. I also believe it is the most courageous decision/action you may make in your life. An individual who does this is allowing themselves to be vulnerable. When done with the right support can be the most rewarding and empowering experience for an individual. My goal as a counselor is to provide a safe, warm space for you as the client to explore your relationship with alcohol and/or substances.

Hi, I'm Marissa Manning, a Vermont clinician with a master’s degree in social work from the University of Southern California. I have worked in the medical field for 13 years, and as a medical social worker for 5 of those years. I have a passion for supporting people throughout the lifespan including new mothers/fathers as they navigate changes that come with parenthood, as well as the geriatric community navigating aging, and at times loss of independence. With this I also enjoy working with caregivers discussing burnout and changes in roles in the family system.

Internet use can become problematic due to addictive behaviors such as gaming, gambling and pornography. If you or someone you love believe that you may have a problem with your internet use, I can help to walk you through a process of identifying and treating these problematic behaviors. I am an RN and a licensed mental health therapist specializing in trauma informed care, anxiety and addictions.

Clients work with me to find the person hidden behind the protective walls they have built up to feel safe. They need, and want, to feel close to family and friends again but are scared it might not work out in their favor. Their goals are often to love themselves, speak up for themselves, and know they are capable no matter how hard life may be in this season. In my career, I have provided mental and drug counseling services to address those in need of counseling. I have worked with individuals and families dealing with anxiety, depression, anger issues, family conflict, trauma, drug abuse, physical and sexual trauma along with behavioral development. I have worked with children, adolescents and adults along with families who have experienced these issues. I believe it is important to work together to address changes in the patient and families, if needed, to create a positive outcome so the patient and their family can live a healthier and fulfilling life.
