Being nervous about starting therapy is natural, which is why I work with each client to establish a relationship of honesty and openness so you can feel comfortable sharing your feelings. There is no magic wand in life but you don’t have to face challenges on your own. Therapy is a journey. I approach each session as a time to learn about you—what motivates you and what ails you. I understand the importance of each individual’s culture so I can fully understand you as a person. Together, we will determine the best possible solutions to address your individual needs.

Symptoms are signals received from both the conscious mind from various sources throughout the body, an indication that something is wrong. By avoiding theses indicators, clients with extending and spiraling issues are able to address symptoms that would otherwise end in a complex and convoluted crises. Obviously our weaknesses and issues, such as anger, insecurity, fear of intimacy, and/or the need to control are expressions of a wounded child within. Much of society has been wounded through abuse or dysfunctional families. Unresolved conflicts tend to carry-over into our adult functioning.

We all face challenges throughout our lives. My focus is on helping individuals see what anxiety is—it started out as a protective strategy. It saw its job as to make you aware of all possible problems before they even arise…and then it got out of control. You can learn how to handle your stress differently. Remember, it is how you handle a challenge that makes the experience a "grind" or a "growing experience".

I am a clinical and forensic psychologist who provides psychological evaluations and compassionate, solution-focused therapy. I use a collaborative, goal-directed approach, meaning that you and I will work together to identify your specific treatment goals and regularly evaluate how well therapy is helping you to reach those goals. An individualized plan is developed based on your unique needs; there are no "cookie cutter" approaches used.

I use a variety of treatment approaches developed over 47 years of clinical practice, with extensive study of hypnotic approaches to psychotherapy. I call my approach hypnotic psychotherapy. Clinical hypnosis is an invaluable aid for understanding my clients and helping theme master new cognitive, emotional, and behavioral skills. I am a licensed clinical social worker with over 25 years of experience helping individuals, couples, and families with adjustment, marriage and family, and mental health issues. I enjoy helping couples make adjustments to marriage, stages of parenting, empty nest, retirement, chronic illnesses, and hospice care. As a Cognitive-Behavioral therapist, I teach patients a variety of coping skills where they learn how to change their thoughts and behaviors in order to change their mood (i.e. depressed, anxious, frustrated, or angry).

When I was growing up, asking for help was seen as a sign of weakness. We were raised to not go outside of our family system with our problems. No wonder I was well into my twenties when I realized that in order to be successful both emotionally and mentally in my life, I needed to learn how to trust others that were outside my family system. Only then could I to begin to heal. I have learned that isolation and recovery are mutually exclusive. Others provide objectivity, support, and a clarity that we can't achieve on our own.

I work with many people who are struggling with symptoms of anxiety and depression. These symptoms are often related to their current context or may be rooted in past experiences or issues. I support clients taking an active role in the therapy process; clarifying their goals is an important way of doing this. We will work together in moving toward achieving these goals. It's important to know that therapy is a process and sometimes significant change takes time.

My ideal client is one who has dealt with anxiety and/or depression throughout life. The clients who have tried therapy periodically but struggle to maintain a stable mood. Clients who are uncomfortable in most environments and seem to always be on edge. These clients often face social, professional, and family struggles because they are reactive, defensive, and sometimes impulsive in both language and actions. People who struggle to be able to motivate themselves into action. These qualities can lead to feeling misunderstood and alienated. I have successfully treated clients that fit this profile.
