My ideal client is one who has dealt with anxiety and/or depression throughout life. The clients who have tried therapy periodically but struggle to maintain a stable mood. Clients who are uncomfortable in most environments and seem to always be on edge. These clients often face social, professional, and family struggles because they are reactive, defensive, and sometimes impulsive in both language and actions. People who struggle to be able to motivate themselves into action. These qualities can lead to feeling misunderstood and alienated. I have successfully treated clients that fit this profile.
Many clients come with multiple disorders diagnoses by other practitioners. Diagnosis is subjective and heavily influenced but professional biases so I test for support to make sure the diagnosis is the underlying issue or only symptoms. Following diagnosis, I use EMDR and CBT along with traditional humanistic approaches.
When our minds engage in continuous thought it can lead to a sense that life is being lived in a tape delay. Often reliving painful aspects of our lives where the more time that passes the stronger the pull. Frustration and hopelessness begin to dominate life and a sense that it won't change.
