In treatment, I focus on working with you to develop and maximize your distinct strengths to overcome the concerns you are presently encountering. You deserve a life that’s worth living even during the strife and struggle so that begs the question, how might I be of help to you? You deserve to have support and someone to walk through life challenges with and I would love to be that person for you! Therapy should be, and is, a space where together we can curate the change that you want to see in your own life. Even if you are unsure of what that solution looks like, I believe we can find it together. I know that calling a therapist can be intimidating but I hope you will take just a moment to call and see how I can help you.

I believe counseling is a unique opportunity to assist individuals by meeting them where they are in life's journey. I think it is essential to work with individuals and families from a strengths-based approach and in ways that best meet their needs. Counseling is a collaborative effort between the counselor and client, and it is designed to help individuals identify goals and solutions to the problems that disrupt their lives.

When the heart opens, the imagination expands, the memory becomes more abstract, the mind grows, and one’s relationships acquire depth and complexity, this changes all relationships with all things. First, we identify who or what triggers your anxiety and/or depression. Are you living in isolation? Are you eating and sleeping properly? What is depression and what are the symptoms? Is it the time of year? The holidays? A recent loss? The end of something you thought would go on forever? A diagnosis of yourself or a loved one? Triggers are everywhere. Anger is another conversation; substance abuse is just different levels of numbing.

Weekend and weekday availability! If you are looking for help with your emotions, mental health, or difficult life circumstances, I would I love to assist you on your journey to growth and healing. When challenging situations arise it is common to feel alone and helpless, but it does not have to be that way. Seeking out a counselor can feel like a daunting task, and being open and vulnerable with someone new is scary. I commend you for beginning the process and taking the first step towards self-empowerment and growth!

We all have what we need already inside ourselves, but sometimes we struggle to know and utilize those strengths in difficult situations. Ego state therapy and “parts work” can help you tap into a set of tools many of us don’t even know we have. As we work together, I will help you get to know yourself in a more meaningful way, understand and heal your traumas, break out of dysfunctional patterns, and strengthen your connection to the powerful helpers and skills you have within your own brain. My life has been changed by this creative and empowering therapy and I hope to do the same with the clients and couples in my care.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
