The focus of my practice is helping adults with ADHD, adults with Substance Use or Alcohol Use concerns, and adults struggling with controlling Anger.
Now offering video and phone therapy from the safety and comfort of your own home. I firmly believe that we all have the ability to create meaningful, happy lives for ourselves, even in the face of adversity. The quality of our experiences is determined by the meaning we give to them. Our time together will be aimed at fostering insights into your inner world - your beliefs, emotions, thoughts, and impulses - to help you redefine your outlook and create the life you want. This is sometimes hard work, and I have seen people make incredible changes. You can too!

I offer guidance to a wide range of concerns - sexuality and intimacy, substance use and recovery, stress management/skill-building, and trauma work.
Hello and welcome! The human journey is inevitably messy at times. Despite the chaotic and confusing, there is always beauty to be discovered. I believe every individual is deserving of connection, compassion, healing, and growth—even you! Often, shame can stand in the way, leaving us feeling stuck or unworthy. My approach to therapy is grounded in the belief that creating a safe space for authenticity and collaboration will help us explore your unique path to healing and help you confront shame, accessing the inner resources already waiting within.

The good news is that you are thinking about making a change. It is ok if you are not sure. I help clients sort through their reasons for making a change and for staying the same. We work together to uncover what is holding you back. In this process there are often images, myths or dreams that show up and that help guide change process. I encourage and support clients to explore the hidden gifts found in the shadow places in their lives and help them shed light on the purpose of old patterns before replacing them with something new and more effective.

Just a few years ago I was caught up in a cycle of self-doubt, shame, and failure. I was early on in adulthood and already I felt completely worn out; convinced my life would end in ruins. Eventually I was able to seek counseling, and this became a major factor in helping me find a new sense of hope and freedom. I became a counselor out of a desire to share this gift with others. I seek to create a safe space where my clients can find new hope in their journey. When you walk into my office, I want you to know that you are welcome here; you belong, and you matter.

Is it the middle of the night and you cannot sleep because your brain will not shut up? Are you replaying a tape of your failures over and over in your head OR are you worried about all the what-ifs that will come with tomorrow? When our mental health hijacks our nights, our days, our lives; we feel alone, we feel isolated. Unable to find enjoyment in life because we feel trapped by our thoughts whether they be of the past or of the future.

Many of my clients report feeling sad, anxious, and overwhelmed, and they don’t know how to change that. They feel disconnected from their partner, and are struggling with conflict, trust, and communication issues that seem unresolvable. If this sounds like you, you don't have to do this alone. I can help you get back to yourself, change the patterns that are keeping you stuck, and reconnect with your partner. I've been working with individuals and couples for over 14 years, and it has been my privilege to walk beside them as they find healing in their relationships, and for themselves.

If you feel overwhelmed by the state of the world, and find yourself thinking "A cloud of worry and criticism seems to follow me wherever I go. I have a decent job, most of my problems seem small compared to others, and yet that doesn't change the fact that most days I want to give up. My free time is a minefield of avoidance, distraction, and overwhelm. The things I really want to do with my life feel far away, and mustering the motivation to do something about it can feel impossible. I'm terrified that my whole life will be one long, crushing disappointment. Why does it have to be so hard?" I can help. We can do this together.

As humans, we innately desire to be connected to and understood by others. For some, connection feels terrifying, confusing, and unsafe. I can help you build and foster a life with fulfilling relationships, with others & with yourself. My goal is to help you access bravery & empowerment so that your whole, authentic self drives your actions instead of fear. Stop obsessing, people pleasing, & stewing in resentment. Heal the root of feeling misunderstood, unloveable, and out of place. Learn to engage in honest conversations rather than only speaking your truth when you're alone. Create powerful community and deep meaning in your life.

Did your family trigger the hell out of you over the holidays? Maybe you noticed things about your family dynamics you never noticed before. Perhaps they even brought out some of the traits you don't like so much about yourself. Maybe some of the trauma you've been through feels super edgy and close to the surface right now. We can help you. Trauma resolution is about moving the stuck gunk of trauma out of your body, mind, and heart. Getting relief from the constant state of anxiety... or a state of being totally checked out. We can help you face the hard stuff to bring peace and safety back to your nervous system.

As a fellow human, I help those who are feeling lost, unmotivated, and burnt out in life to reclaim a sense of peace and joy in self and with others. It may seem like you are at the bottom of an insurmountable mountain. You may feel as though you are just surviving. However, it is possible to reawaken a sense of curiosity, openness, and joy within yourself and in your relationships. I utilize a compassionate, strength-based approach that builds on the therapeutic alliance to provide concrete tools that increase the probability for meaningful change to occur.

Substance Use Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
