If you have tried therapy in the past with little success, please call me! I have over 20 years experience treating substance use and mood disorders, trauma and other complex issues.
Are you haunted by something in your past, hounded by negative self-talk, or feel stuck in some destructive pattern? Have you always felt a bit “different”, lacked a sense of belonging or haven’t ever quite fit in with society's “norms”? Are you highly intuitive, but can’t make sense of what your “gut” seems to be trying to tell you? Do you march to the beat of your own drum and often feel misunderstood by others? Have you recently had an “awakening” and need help “sorting everything out”? Perhaps you have always felt an inner calling but can’t quite figure out exactly what it is.

My approach to therapy is best stated by the timeless lyricist, Vanilla Ice, “if there is a problem, yo, I'll solve it. Check out the hook while my DJ revolves it.” While I will not rap during our session, I will help address whatever difficulties are presenting in your life, be that depression, anxiety, addiction, or an eating disorder. Whether this is your first time thinking about therapy or you're a seasoned client looking for a new therapist, I’m here, I get it, let’s get started.

Trauma, anxiety, depression, ADHD, and relationships, has been keeping you from your life. Your negative self-talk is hard on you. Everyone can be hard on themselves. It’s exhausting trying to anticipate when these feelings will come back again. You can’t trust your own thoughts. It could be that your painful past or current stress isn’t going away on its own. On most days it takes more than that. Feeling stuck in a vicious cycle with no end in sight, you know you can’t handle this alone anymore. Maybe something happened, something very upsetting occurred, and it changed you. You’ll feel calm You’ll breathe again!

Substance Use Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
