Using EMDR, Somatic Experiencing (SE), and insight + compassion-oriented therapy approaches, I offer a safe and supportive place to find relief and feel into your own inherent healing potential.
When you're trying to manage anxiety and/or depression, want relief from mood swings, need support addressing difficult past events and current triggers, or feel stuck in patterns that aren't working well for you - therapy can help. Anxiety, depression and trauma histories can make you hard on yourself (a ruthless inner critic), feel ruled by fear and shame, and zap the joy from living. It's definitely hard being human sometimes, and you deserve to find relief, hope, and healing. In doing so, you can make peace with your past, be more "here" for the present, and more curious about your future.

With an emphasis on trauma through EMDR and somatic work, I have worked with individuals from various life experiences and diverse backgrounds.
Are you interested in living more authentically with your core self and working to pursue a life that is more in line with your aspirations and values? Does it feel like your past experiences or beliefs about yourself have made you feel stuck? We all go through experiences in our life that can get in the way of us living into our full potential and I would be honored to walk with you in that process of discovery and healing.

My background in somatic psychology, ecotherapy and expressive arts allows me to offer talk therapy as well as experiential modalities such as movement, art, adventure and nature therapies.
Through a holistic and integrative approach I support individuals and families to navigate the unique challenges that life has unfolded for them. Whether our work takes place in my office or out in nature, I help my clients identify, cultivate and nourish their strengths and resources. Through our work my clients deepen their connection to themselves, others and the natural world. As these connections grow I support my clients to uncover limiting patterns that inhibit their relationships, creativity and happiness so they can nourish new ways of moving and relating in the world that support authenticity, ease, and joy.

I typically blend EMDR with experiential, somatic, IFS/Parts Work and mindfulness techniques to not only provide you with practical tools to cope with the issues you are experiencing day-to-day, but allow you to fully heal old wounds and to live in the present moment.
As a trauma-informed therapist, I am passionate about helping my clients shed their burdens and feel more empowered in their lives. I believe each of us has innate healing powers that can become overcome by trauma, leaving us feeling stuck, frozen, or in states of panic. EMDR is a research-based approach that can be combined with other methods to allow old "unprocessed" memories to become processed, thereby relieving you of unwanted negative thoughts and feelings. I have been honored to witness my clients experience profound transformations using this approach and was inspired to pursue advanced training and Certification in EMDR.

Cognitive-behavioral, emotionally focused, narrative and somatic therapy offer helpful tools, as do sex therapy and hypnosis.
We are convinced we have a problem. We're focused on it, worried about it, and it often feels like it defines us. These problems tend to show up or worsen during life and relationship transitions. Attending to what isn't working, as well as being intentional about addressing these problems, is necessary for change. Easily overlooked though, are the jewels - the opportunities hiding behind those problems. Psychotherapy provides a safe space for growth opportunities - offering compassion to those parts of ourselves we don't like or shame us, while allowing for the fluidity, flexibility and movement required for transformations.

I am a holistically focused trauma therapist using EMDR, mindfulness, inner child work, writing & somatic sensing with a "shoeless" in-person office.
ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS (Private Pay) - You feel stuck. You are tired of feeling overwhelmed. Each day, you are trying so hard to please others only to get disappointed over and over again. You diligently worked on providing others with resources so they can live a better life. At the same time you have read and tried many strategies to work on yourself, but you still end up feeling defeated. You have been holding on to a dream of everything changing if you or they only...you fill in the blank. Now imagine - a life where your relationships are life-giving, boundaried, and healthy—not soul-sucking, draining, and empty...

I frequently draw from from experiential, psychodynamic, somatic, mindfulness, and parts work techniques.
Are you seeking trauma-informed care that integrates mind and body? Does cognitive behavioral therapy feel limiting and impersonal to you? Are you curious about cultivating a deeper, more compassionate relationship with your inner emotional life? Is it important to you that your therapist is LGBTQ+ affirming and social justice oriented? If so, my approach may be a good fit for you. I enjoy working with individuals (16+) and couples who are coping with issues related to anxiety, depression, relationships, life transitions, academic challenges, identity, self-esteem, loss, and trauma.

Combining relational & depth oriented talk-therapy with somatic (body-focused) practices we work together to tailor sessions for your unique needs and provide you with the tools & insights necessary to move toward a more fulfilling and balanced life.
Many of us have lived-experiences where we’ve been forced to disconnect from the most fundamental aspects of ourselves. This disconnection, & the beliefs we construct to protect ourselves from the pain of this, serves as the basis for much suffering. I believe rebuilding a positive relationship with your whole being (mind/body/spirit) is a fundamental principle of healing & that a safe therapeutic relationship is one way we can grow capacity for the exploration, understanding, & reclamation of self required to heal. I aim for our work to bring you into contact with the self-observer, advocate, and healer inside you.

I use tools that pull from attachment approaches, positive psychology, mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy, play therapy, trauma-informed interventions, and somatic approaches.
Hello! If you are reading this, you are already taking the first step towards bettering yourself or your family. Therapy can be intimidating, but I like to look at it more as a journey towards wholeness and healing. I work with adults, teens, and children that may be struggling due to stress, life changes, depression, anxiety, mood disorders, or major challenges. Therapy can help you or your child learn ways to cope, how to navigate hard times, gain insight, and work towards growth. It is also a chance to just be heard. At Thrive Counseling and Wellness, I also offer meditation/mindfulness classes to help you implement relaxation.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
