I work from a Holistic approach integrating traditional cognitive talk therapy, mindfulness, neurobiological, and somatic (body-based) practices.
Accepting new clients, no evening or weekend availability. Do you find yourself excelling in certain areas of life only to sit down at the end of the day feeling unfulfilled, drained, on edge, or disconnected; like nothing is good enough no matter how hard you try or that you are losing control? Many people I work with are burned out and frustrated wondering why they can't "just get it together, move on, get this under control, relax, or shut off the thoughts." Worry, sadness, and that knot in the pit of your stomach don't have to keep being part of your everyday life.

I am a LCSW-R, somatic experience practitioner, somatic touch trained therapist, reiki master, am getting my ISP - integrated somatic psychology certification and a certified attachment therapist through Diane Poole-Heller.
My ideal client would be open to more than talk therapy to resolve their trauma, anxiety, depression, adjustment disorders and attachment adaptations. They would be willing to begin to lower their unconscious defenses in their body as well as their minds, work with regressed parts to improve self-regulation and self love which will improve their abilities to be more relational with their friends and family. My client could also be going through a transition and need support or an added resource to help them get through a difficult time where indecision is blocking them from moving forward.

I came to therapy as a client and became passionate about the benefits of therapy because of the changes I experienced in my own life. I am a fellow traveler along the path to healing who knows suffering. It is a great honor to help people reduce unnecessary suffering and improve pleasure, wellness, and ease in their lives. Learning about ourselves is a life-long process as we are constantly exposed to new experiences. There is always room to improve our relationships and the rewards are real.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
